rikiegale (755.6 days ago) Personally I feel that a small glass of wine 6oz-8oz every once in awhile is OK and your personal choice. I don`t have one every week but maybe once or twice a month when we go out for a really good meal. My doctor says this is OK.
mommygrace (755.6 days ago) Fetal Alcohol Syndrome ... is caused by continuous, regular alcohol consumption thru the entire pregnancy. The question was, would you have a GLASS of wine or beer. There is no difference in smoking one cigerette, having one can of soda or have a small glass of wine. ALL 3 have stimulants in them. Before any one sets out to judge another about what they consume during pregnancy, take a look at the products you put into your body as well. Caffine, Nicotine, MSG, Nitrates in processed meats, alcohol.. what ever it may be. If the person is an alcoholic or a drug addict, then please feel free to comment accordingly. My OB has suggested that 6-8 oz of wine a week is more than safe through out my pregnancy. All things in moderation. She also said that she would rather have me consume that than 8 oz of Coke a day. For what it is worth if you don`t feel safe or comfortable drinking, smoking or what ever thru your pregnancy then that is wonderful! If you feel safe with everything in moderation, that is wonderful. Each individual women will have to live with the decisions they make. It is NO ONE`s place to point a finger at another. Remember, when you start pointing a finger, you have 3 pointing right back at you!
Seriously....if you want facts read the ingrediants in your food. You would be shocked to see what all you put in your body on a daily basis!
lisa-82 (755.7 days ago) i dont feel guilty at all for having a random drink-just like some of you are saying-everyone makes their personal decisions...and i`m all for that. and i`m not close-minded so i have, as well, looked at some of these sites that ya`ll are posting to be more informed. thank you.
Mona-Lisa (755.8 days ago) sorry here it is again http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/FetalAlcoholSyndrome.html
Mona-Lisa (755.8 days ago) I seemed to have opened up a can of worms here. I didn`t want to have anyone pointing fingers at any body, just hear everyones personal choice. With my first pregnancy 11 years ago, I looked forward to my ONE drink every Saturday night. Mind you back then, they said 1.5 units per day were safe! My daughter is now 10 and she is perfect in everyway, very smart, beautiful big eyes and full lips..the opposite of any FAS symptoms. I am a strong believer that anything in moderation is ok. With this pregnancy I had a glass of wine after my big turkey dinner at Thanksgiving and I will again at Christmas but only after a full meal. I get opinions from certain family members ofcourse but no one should make ANY pregnant woman feel guilty for making a personal choice, that will only increase stress and feelingsof guilt that a pregnant woman does not need to feel. That is not good for the baby and that we know for sure! I feel that the odd glass of wine will not harm my baby and thats my personal choice. I too have a website that you should read up..

Just do what you as an individual feels is right;)
Samara. (755.8 days ago) There`s stuff out there like sparkling apple juice or grape juice that tastes just like wine lol. Why don`t you guys try that. It`s really good nad has no alcohol in it. And no one here is a bad mother because they`ve had a couple of drinks. I wouldn`t do it but it`s a personal choice nad no one should be judged. :)
mia (756.3 days ago) I`m sure there have been people who drank, smoked, etc through their pregnancy and the baby was fine...but why would you want to chance it? I`m not willing to. I would feel horrible if the baby was born with a birth defect and it was because of something I did and could`ve prevented. It`s a personal choice.
Brittany23 (756.3 days ago) I do believe that one glass here or there can`t be that bad, after all how many people have gotten hammered before realizing that they`re pregnant, and their babies are fine. That being said, I also don`t understand why ppl are having anything to drink at all, knowing that you`re pregnant. Is it that hard to just have a glass of juice instead? Can`t you celebrate without alcohol? Especially if you`re only having one or two then you`re not getting buzzed anyway, right... so what`s the point? Anyway, I was never much of a drinker myself, I hate being drunk and hate the taste of alcohol so that could be why I don`t understand.
jensay (756.4 days ago) 1st i want to say this comment is not directed at any one person. Just the question. For me i choose to not have even a sip of alcohol. I know someone with F.A.S. She will have problems her whole life. .....Do i think 1 or 2 glasses of wine would do that? No!...... Do I know for sure 1 or 2 glasses of wine is safe? No! Do i look down on women who have 1 or 2 drinks when preggo. of course not. I think it comes down to personal choice. I just know that if anything every happend to my baby because i a drink then i would never forgive my self. So for me its not worth it. and thats just my opinion on the subject.

summerisis (756.5 days ago) Tylenol (acetamenophen) is okay during pregnancy. But doctor has a list of medicaitons that are okay -- I am not limite to Tylenol...
lisa-82 (756.5 days ago) isnt tylenol the 1 thing you AREN`T suppose to be taking when your pregnant???
abrinasay (756.5 days ago) Lisa, Don`t worry... I drank a glass of flavoured wine that was a very low alcoholc percentage at a wedding earlier this month. It doesn`t make you a bad person...
summerisis (756.5 days ago) Unless you`re doing EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK then I think people should watch who they`re calling selfish. Remember that when you point your finger at someone and three point back at you...
lisa-82 (756.5 days ago) wow! i`m glad people are finding it amusing to point me out just b/c i`m actually speaking up-when there are 10 other people that are saying they think its ok....and summerisis is right-there are other ways to go about thinkin that drinking is wrong during pregnancy-there is no need to bash on someone for having 2drinks! my God-the world hasnt ended!! and to give a website like she did is more helpful then stating your opinion! b/c opinions are just that!!
missyhull (756.5 days ago) If there is diffently something out there called fetal alcohol syndrome why take the risk at all, my doctor won`t let me take any medicine, even cough syrup because if could have alcohol in it, the only medicine they will let you take when your pregnant is tylenol! Why take the chance! I mean if I there was something that could cause down syndrom at a small risk, would you take the substance? I don`t know I just think it is very selfish on the mothers part to drink or smoke at all during prenancy, there are too many premature babies born and suffering in this world.
summerisis (756.5 days ago) FINE! I WON`T HAVE A GLASS OR WINE! SEE IF I CARE! HAVE IT YOUR WAY! (I did some more research and I think Frenchie is right... even though her presentation left a bad taste in my mouth.) For more information on Fetal Alcohol Syndrom --> http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/fas/factsheets.htm
Jadens*MaMa (756.5 days ago) Lisa i have known several people who have had up two drinks trough out their pregnancy and everything was fine!! But i think you shouldnt have no more than two drinks(trough out the pregnancy) just to be on the safe side! you never know How much it takes For a child to be effected.
lisa-82 (756.5 days ago) lemme correct myself since some people may think i was saying that i dont think its a big deal to drink...i DO think its a big deal to drink while being pregnant-but what i was saying was that i havent even thought about drinking since i`ve become pregnant and i MAY have 1 DRINK IF i go out to eat-but usually its just a special occassion-like i had 1drink when my youngest bro graduated from army bootcamp, in sept-and i had 1drink earlier in mid oct for my little bro`s bday...thats it! i dont see that to be a crime! so anyone who thinks i`m killing my baby b/c i`ve had 2drinks in the 20wks i`ve been pregnant-vent to someone else-b/c i dont care about your opinion! =)
summerisis (756.6 days ago) I haven`t had a glass of wine or beer yet, but I will over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Organization advocates zero tolerance because a minimal threshold has yet to be determined for alcohol consumption, but from what I understand the problem arises mostly if mother`s drink 2 - 3 beverages a day or occasionally binge-drinks. I have chosen Thanksgiving week with family as a time that I will have a glass of wine or two. (I`ll also be in week 22...)
lisa-82 (756.6 days ago) its wierd how its not that big of a deal to have any kind of alcoholic drink for me-now that im preggo. but i may have an occassional sangria swirl OR a glass of wine if i go out to eat.
