1st-time-Toya (518 days ago) i kept my dog....my dog runs from the baby tho because my daughter is 11 months and in this `hitting phase` for some reason and the dog knows she cant be rough and play with her, i think she recognizes that she is just a baby.
canadababy (518.1 days ago) I kept my 100lb German Shepherd until DD was 9months old and we had to put him down. He was great with her, never rough but always wanted to be near her. Just like everyone says, it depends on the dog :)
blessed x3 (518.6 days ago) We have 3 dogs. A 6 year old bichon frise (10 lb dog), a 3 year old treeing coon hound who is a hunting/outside dog (50lb dog), and we have her 4 month old pup. Our children are 21 months, 4, and 6 and they are AWESOME with our kids. The kids bug them sometimes, but the dogs just get up and walk away. If your dog isn`t aggressive, keep him/her. Just always make sure you keep an eye on the dog and baby when the baby starts getting around to teach baby to be nice, and make sure the dog doesn`t growl or anything.
Sara-Kelly (518.6 days ago) Donna-I`ve had Pitbulls/Staffordshire Terriers, and their some of the best, sweetest gentlest dogs I`ve ever had & one in particular was GREAT w/children. If you raise a dog right, w/love & kindness & train it/socialize it well, you will end up w/ a great dog. I`ve never met a bad dog-only bad owners.
heathernaj (518.6 days ago) My dog is a Pomapoo. He`s pretty small, only about 10 pounds. MummyLJ, the idea about the blanket is a REALLY good idea. I will have to have my mom go by the apartment and let Boone (my dog) roll around with it. lol
Donna (Blue) (518.6 days ago) I think it depends on the breed and nature of your dog, if hes been around children before. Also from Mumbo`s post staff`s were used to guard babys cribs, even thou they are known for there nasty nature they are okay around babies.
heathernaj (518.6 days ago) Good idea! Thanks for the advice :)
Sara-Kelly (518.6 days ago) I can`t remember a time when I diddn`t have a dog growing up. My older dog started barking a few weeks ago while I was doing the dishes & I ran to see what was wrong. DH forgot to shut the cellar door & close the baby gate & our dog was blocking/herding the baby away from the cellar stairs!! If it wasn`t for her, DD could of fallen down the stairs & I could of lost my baby!! (Santa Paws is definatly getting her something special for Christmas!!=D) We also got a new puppy this summer which DD adores!! They play, cuddle, nap together & are best buddies like mumbo`s son & dog. Our older dog is Mommies side-kick & helps me keep an eye on the little munchkins. =)
