daisybaby`s poll Show results | Hide results

Baby-poll poll My baby is two weeks old. She sleeps for over 4 hours at a time quite frequently. During the day I will wake her to feed her but at night she sleeps for 5-6 hours at at time and doesn`t eat for 6-7 hours. Is this okay? Should I wake her to feed her at night? She breastfeeds for about an hour at a time. I`ll ask my Dr. tomorrow but I`m curious. She is growing like a weed and doesn`t seem overly hungry...

Let her sleep as long as she can at night.
Wake her, don't let her go more then 4 hours without eating.
Suggestion!

When I breastfed my first child, the docs said not to let them sleep for more than 4 hours without a feeding. That keeps them full and your milk flowing. You want your milk to flow because the more your baby eats, the more milk your body will produce to satify his/her feedings. If you body feels as though your baby is not eating much, it might not produce as much, making it harder and harder to keep your baby satisfied later on when their growth spurt kicks in.

My Dr. said not to let her go more then 4 hrs. during the day and 5 hrs. during the night. Reason being, she has not reached her birth weight yet! Close, but not quite! She weighed 7,4 @ birth and 6,11 when we left the hospital. She now weighs 7,2. So she is gaining but I`m going in to weigh her again on Friday...if she`s back up to her birth weight I`ll be able to let her set her own schedule! :)

let her sleep. As long as she`s growing well, I wouldn`t mess with the sleeping at night! You`re so lucky!!!!! My babies have never slept at night until they were about 2 months old!!

I know this was quite a while ago, but my mom told me that I slept for about six hours at night before I would wake to be fed. I was a little sumo baby. Every baby is so different, but they definately are not going to go hungry and not let you know.

I think if a baby is hungry, he or she wakes up for a feed so just enjoy having a baby that likes to sleep a lot! If her weight is gaining steadily & she has a good feed when she does wake up, then I wouldn`t worry - I`d be grateful! Congrats xXx

Dont wake her up at night unless you want to start a bad habit! I wish I would have just let my son sleep as long as he wanted instead of waking him because I was scared that he wasnt getting enough. They know when they are hungry trust me!

I have 4 children and have always let each of them sleep as long as they could at night, I have never had a problem breastfeeding or anything. I say let your baby sleep at night, daytime is different.
