michelle (1550 days ago) With my other two it wasent available at the hospital but with my 3rd i was curious and found one that does. So im still trying to get info myself. she did tell me thou that if i wanted to have one you have to go to a class because there are alot of things that you need to know. Like when your giving birth you have to have your bum in the water so the air dosent get into the babys face, if you get your bum out you have to give birth out of the water. Also i know the water has to be kept at the right temp. I think its a great idea to think about
KatSue (1550.2 days ago) I labor naturally and use the tub, so does my sister-in-law. As far as feces, urine, and babyfluids- the baby will not aspirate under water, so it won`t get infection that way. And pardon the bluntness, but the baby has been swimming in it`s own fluids for 9 months! If you are going for a natural, peaceful laor tubs are sometimes called the Midwives epidural. Even if you don`t give birth in the water, it definatly helps during the labor process. I will say that natural childbirth takes prepaation and determination. Best of luck!
mirandasmom (1553.4 days ago) I live on a small island, our midwives support water births. I unfortunatley had to have a c-section. If I hadnt I would have been in the tub for sure!! They clean the water! If their was feces and/or urine in it they take you out and clean it. My friend had her first out of the tub, then her 2nd and 3rd in the tub and she loved it. She said its so much less painfull in the water.
leahs (1553.5 days ago) I was dying to try a water birth but it is just not available in my area. If you go to a reputable place to have the water birth your baby will not be born in dirty water, they continuously drain and refill the water and use special disposable bath liners. I know a few people who have done it and it helped incredibly with pain management, it softens and relaxes your perineum so you don`t tear and it was just more comfortable. But according to these people they don`t generally offer it to first time mothers or women who have any type of complication in their pregnancy.
naomijane (1553.6 days ago) My neighbor is actually a midwife and helps all the women at the local hospital and I asked about water birth and she is VERY against it she said that when the baby comes out it will be in the mother`s urine, feces, blood and all of the baby`s fluids as well. She also said that if there are complications with the baby or mother that it is a lot harder to assist the mother& baby and sometimes results in sickness and having to stay at the hospital for a longer time period. [plus the babys tend to swallow the dirty bath water]....I think its not sanitary but thats just my opinion.
eCCAbOO (1553.6 days ago) i saw a video on youtube of a water birth. i personally just don`t understand it. i know that they say it`s an easier transition for baby, but you have to take baby out of the water anyway. it`s just prolonging it. i don`t know. i guess that`s why we are allowed to make our own choices :)
mitzumama (1553.6 days ago) I have a friend who has tried water birth twice. The first one did not go well. If you haven`t given birth before, you may tear if you are in water because your midwife cannot tend to you the same way. Plus, she cannot assist as well in turning the baby or addressing complications. However, I support water birth and think if you have all the information, the right midwife and a prepared perineum (the part of your body most likely to tear) it can be a really wonderful choice. The second time my friend gave birth in water was really lovely. A smooth delivery. Good luck with whatever you choose.
