Cindy.Nov28`s poll Show results | Hide results

Pregnancy-poll poll If you tested positive for Group B Strep, I would love to hear how things turned out and/or were different during birth than not having it. I know you have to have an IV and the baby has to stay at least 48 hours, but what else should I know? Everything I read is so scary. Did you go in as soon as your water broke? Did you pass GBS on to your baby? All of this scares me since I tested positive. Thank you very much.

If you tested postive, just make SURE that they ACTUALLY give you the antibiotic when you go to have the baby. My stepbrother`s ex wife had it happen to where they didn`t do it (God only knows why) and he got meningitis and it`s a miracle that he even lived. But he has mental retardation now but luckily not as bad as it could be. He`s 7 now and is just learning to speak well. Not wanting to scare you, just make SURE that they ACTUALLY do it!

I tested postive two out of the three times I`ve had a baby. The first time I was given antibiotics through an IV when I arrived at the hospital. I`m allergic to penicillin so was given a different type of med. The 2nd time I was given antibiotics in an IV but not in enough time before she was born. She was born 40 minutes after I arrived at the hospital (2nd babies often come very quickly.) The pediatrician just told me things to look for, but anytime a newborn is acting sick or has any symptoms it is important to call the pediatrician. After a few weeks I didn`t need to worry anymore. She ended up being perfectly fine.

I test positive about a month ago. My ob gave me some antibiotics then. He also said that I would get some thru IV when I go into labor. He said that he wanted to get the IV into me then before the water broke to insure that I could get both treatments in.

I havent gone through labor but my sister in law had it.. She was given the iv but for some reason it slowed down the labor process.. My nephew was just in the hospital for a week just to make sure he was ok. Everything turned out fine that she is 12 weeks pregnant with her second!

I tested positive w my first and then just went about it as if I were positive w/ my 2nd...all the ladies are right you get an IV and your fine...my 2nd only stayed 24 hours...we wanted out and they didnt seem to mind...maybe that was strange? Baby was also fine both times....

I tested positive and the doctor told me that I would have to be on a antibiotic IV like you and he said not to worry. The danger is only when you don`t have the IV and the baby is passing thru to your cervix but most likely you will be in the hospital by then. So don`t worry too much. I`m not.

I tested postive for Strep B with my oldest son, but not for the other two. Which I thought was different. My water had broke at home and when I called the L&D to let them know they asked me to come right away so that they could start me on the antibiotics. The antibiotic was a penicillan, which I don`t have any reaction to. Everything turned out fine, my baby was completely healthy and we got to go home after the 48 hours. Good luck to you, I`m sure you and your baby girl will be fine. Congratulations!!

I tested positive. I had an IV with antibiotics in it, that was the only thing. The baby was perfectly fine. If your water breaks you do need to go straight to the Dr., but even if you didn`t have it you would still need to go straight to the Dr. Don`t worry, everything will be fine
