DeklansMommy (267.5 days ago)Wow...some really heated answers in here! We discussed the topic of circumcision in about week 31, I think, when I was in it. My midwife is against routine circs, yet my son is and this one will be. We have had discussions at length and she just says that the best decision is an INFORMED decision, and it`s up to us as parents. That`s the bottom line. If you make an informed decision, as this child`s parent, you`re doing what you believe is best, not just doing or not doing something because of tradition. We chose to circ. for many reason, most of which have been brought up already. One reason why it was so popular to circ. boys many years ago, is because most Dr.`s were Jewish, and they did it because of religious reasons. But now it`s being looked at in a different light. For instance, my 28 year old brother IS circ.`d, but my 4 year old brother is not. Things change. But anyway, as for us, we are for circumcision mostly for health reasons, and the fact that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I`d much rather my sons be circ.`d as an infant when they won`t remember, than as a child or adult when they would...not to say that everyone who`s uncirc.`d has to eventually have one, but you know what I mean. And with the Plasti-bell method, `mistakes` are all but eliminated. They don`t cut with a scapel...they clamp a plastic ring around the foreskin and in a few days it falls off. But it`s adjustable and a lot less painful, less prone to infection or inflammation than the old ways, and requires no extra care. But anyhoo, that`s my little blurb. :)
mommymeg (269.1 days ago)ahh, the joy of debating crazy things...this is my favorite line by far off anyones comment
`And who cares if they get the occasional yeast infection` OKAY... isnt going thru one burst of pain as a baby who cant remember things 2 seconds out better than the occasional yeast infection that hurts for days everytime u get one???
this next comment has got to win for 2nd,
`Women, stop putting your sons through unnnecessary pain!!`
when was the last time anyone had an infection that didnt hurt?????
im not sure what to say other than I would never even want to think of sleeping with a man unprotected who wasnt circumsized `if` bacteria and infection just sit around and fester...your not puttin your questionably `clean` penis in me, forget about it looking weird, its potentially gross to think about a dirty moisture ridden dick....i know im off base a bit and a little off the original subject but come on people, circumsizing on religion alone is upsetting to me, if you do it do it becasue you think there are real benefits not because `god` told u to or not to...god never told preist`s to have sex with little boys...religion is to some extent interpretation and theres no interpreting infections....sorry yall...no drama here! if i dont make sence...dont listen to me...
summerisis (269.4 days ago)I will have it done if my husband would like us to have it done. It`s just not worth the argument to me. I have dated men with both circumcised and uncircumcised penises so I don`t have any issue when `how the penis looks`. I hope that mothers that choose to circumcisize becuase they fear that their son will be teased, will also take the time to teach their sons to not be teasers. My only real concern with circumcision is that little boys grow up to be old men, and this means that they can lose their senses/mobility/etc and that is when cleanliness can become an issue. My neighbor is an urologist and he has to circumcise old men because they cannot care for themselves properly. Oh, and I recently read that 80% of American boys were circumcised in the 1980`s and that precentage has decreased to 50% in a mere 20 years. Clearly, the trend is away from this practice in the USA.
Mona-Lisa (269.5 days ago)A few reasons I found that made me want to circumcise if I have a boy...
1. It has been shown to reduce the risk of urinary tract infection
2. It reduces the risk of penile infections.
3. It eliminates the need to do it in later life when up to 6% of boys/men will require circumcision because of various problems. When done in later life it is a more costly and difficult procedure with higher risk requiring a general anesthetic and is more painful.
4. Circumcision has been shown to reduce the risk of acquiring some sexually transmitted diseases including HIV.(foreskin is VERY susceptible to virus and bacteria).
5. Circumcision has been shown to reduce the risk of penile cancer.
6. Some studies also show that circumcised men have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.
But Thats just my choice, everyone is different!
Brittany23 (269.5 days ago)Comparing female circumcision with male circumcision is ridiculous! In female circumcision they CUT OUT the clitoris! And in 3rd world countries without anesthesia or any pain killers! And from what I`ve seen of it (on oprah) it`s done when a girl is starting puberty. There is no comparing the two!
There is the smallest chance that they`re going to f-up when preforming a circumcision, it`s a very simple procedure.. unless the doctor sneezes or something. I would definitely do it, not for religious reasons, or even so much for hygienic reasons... My reasons are totally superficial and I would do it to give my son a nice penis. My *personal opinion* is that uncircumcised penises are kinda gross! I`ve only been with one guy who was (thank god) circumcised. It makes a big difference to me in my sex life. I like his penis but if it had an extra bit of floppy skin hanging off the end I don`t think I would like it so much.
butterblocksmom (269.5 days ago)I completely disagree with your comment Kateohm, about a poll about circumcision starting a drama. In fact I take offense to the narrow minded view that that is the only reason why I would ask that question. This is my first child, I have been worrying about him from the first nanosecond I got pregnant. I recently read about a young child who DIED in the USA from complications resulting from a routine circumcision. I grew up with NO male influence in my family (no father, no uncles, no brothers and grandfathers both of who died), therefore I don`t see the issue in asking the opinion of women that I happen to have alot in common with. Clearly you and I have very different lives and attitudes. I don`t think that`s a bad thing by the way. If you don`t agree with a poll that asks an open and forthright question about a timely and important topic, please don`t bother with your less than conducive comments. Serious and concerned need reply only.
bebe (269.6 days ago)From the American Academy of Pediatrics website:
`Should we have our son circumcised?
At birth, boys have skin that covers the end of the penis, called the foreskin. Circumcision surgically removes the foreskin, exposing the tip of the penis. Circumcision is usually performed by a doctor in the first few days of life. An infant must be stable and healthy to safely be circumcised.
Scientific studies show some medical benefits of circumcision. However, these benefits are not sufficient for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to recommend that all infant boys be circumcised.
Because circumcision is not essential to a child`s health, parents should choose what is best for their child by looking at the benefits and risks. Circumcision may be more risky if done later in life, so parents should decide before or soon after their son is born if they want it done.`
This seems to be more of a personal issue and choice rather than to be debated about for other reasons. Circumcision is a procedure practiced mostly in the U.S. and not other parts of the world. In fact most males in the world are not circumcised.
Personally, my son who is now eight years old was not circumcised and has never encountered any problems. My husband is not circumcised and has not had any problems either. My recommendation is to just do what you are comfortable with. The medical evidence is not there, but people make choices for lots of other reasons. Good luck with your decision.
Mommy-2-B (269.6 days ago)I wouldn`t even give it a second thought. I will definately have it done if I have a boy. I think it looks much better when a guy is circumcised from what I`ve seen in medical videos. As for real life...I have NEVER seen one that wasn`t circumcised. When I was in nursing school I saw three baby boys` circumcisions. They cry when it is being done, but as soon as you bundle them back up in their blanket, they immediately stop crying. My brother had his circumcision re-done at age 12 because the doctor didn`t take off enough when he was born, and he was unhappy with the way it looked. Trust me when I say...it was much more traumatizing at age 12, and his pain was much longer lived.
TashaBena (269.6 days ago)I wouldnt want my little boy at anytime in his life to get made fun of just because of something so little. Plus its just something that i myself feel strongly about i dotn really have a good solid reason as to why
Virgobaby1978 (269.8 days ago)my little brother ended up with some nasty sores because of not being washed as well as he should have been due to the fact he didn`t like being touched there. And after that happened he refused to let you touch him there at all. It really depends on if you want to put forth the extra effort to clean him.
Annie85 (269.9 days ago)as long as u teach your son proper hygeine u shouldnt have a problem, if i was to have a boy which i am not, i would do it my religion has nothing to do with it, this subject shouldnt even cause unnecessary drama its not like people who are circumsizing their sons are castrating them making a big thing out something so small just makes u look ignorant IMAO
A (269.9 days ago)My BF and I have talked about it and if we have boys we will leave them uncircumcised. We`re trying to lead a more natural life which is one reason and also my BF isn`t circumcised and has had no trouble with that.
I understand that many people want their sons to be circumcised. Everyone must decided and our decision is to not have it done.
ede (269.9 days ago)I`m sorry for my little outburst, but it really gets to me when ppl tell me I`m putting my sons through unneccesary pain. I would not do anything to harm my child if I didn`t truely believe it was necessary. And I don`t judge ppl if they decide not to get their boys done cos that is up to them to decide.
maybaybay (269.9 days ago)Yes I WILL bc the uncircumsized penis is more prone to infection and when they bc sexually active std`s, the extra skin holds bacteria and prevents them from having the procedure done later in life. my sis bf got his done at 18 cuz infection and it wasn`t somethign anyone wants to go thru or remember??? Could u imagine???!!!
ede (269.9 days ago)In response to proverb31mama,don`t you think circumcision WITH religious beliefs is ridiculous? I`m getting it done for health reasons, not because of some bloody religion! That is barbaric!
babi_blu_1982 (269.9 days ago)Both of my boys are circumsized. One of my cousins had to get it done in High school due to infections even though he was a very clean person. I would rather have it done while they are too young to remember and they heal much quicker as infants. Just my opinion.
ede (269.9 days ago)we got our son circumcised and will be getting this one done also. I know of sooooo many people, half of them family members, who never got done when they were born but had to later in life due to infections. The youngest I know was a 5 year old who is now shit scared of going to doctors for any other reason because he remembers how much it hurt. Before He had to get this done, the mother of this child absolutley abused me for getting my son done.I didn`t want to put my son in any pain but at least he cant remember it. Other males I know are in ther 20s 30s and 40s and had to end up getting theres done. I think its personal choice and noone should be abused for their decision. I don`t care if other ppl are against it and wont get there sons done but dont abuse ppl for wanting to get it done.
Proverbs31mama (270 days ago)I have two boys who arent circumsized. cirfumsision without religious beliefs is absolutely ridiculous and i think its barbaric. This country shudders at the thought of female circumsicion, yet we`ll do the same thing to our boys when they have LESS extra skin than we do! And who cares if they get the occasional yeast infection (although my boys have NEVER had any infections, and my brother whos 25 and not circumsized has nevr had any infections) we women get far more infections down there than any uncircumsized man will. Women, stop putting your sons through unnnecessary pain!!
~JESSICA~ (270 days ago)mine will be it`s cleaner & i`ve never seen one that wasn`t....
nicolefeb08 (270 days ago)I don`t see any drama on here either...so far.
I circumsized my son because his father chose to. And this one will be circumsized also. I think it is more hygienic. My husband wasn`t and had to get circum. as a grown man! So if a man wants his son circumsized then he will be. I don`t have a penis so I can`t really say he would rather be uncirmcumsized.
jjones0461 (270 days ago)I don`t see drama getting started..she just asked a question. If we have a boy he will be getting it done for sure!!! It is just a personal choice. My husband is circumsized, I just think it is better for them in the long run...just my opinion and you know what opinions are like....everybody`s got one LOL!!
natalie75 (270.1 days ago)One reason I had my son`s done was because his father is and I thought make things easier.
WoozUrMami (270.1 days ago)I have 2 son`s who I`ve had done. Their dad is not Circumcisized, but we felt it was cleaner to have it done and it looks better.it might also benefit from having infection in the future. I`ve heard of men having to get Circumcisized in their later years due to infection. Good luck
laughingraspberries (270.1 days ago)actually, these days only about 50% of boys are circumsized on average. depends on where you live. By the time boys are old enough to really notice the difference in looks, they are also old enough for a simple explanation `some boys have had the extra skin at the end of their penis cut off. some boys haven`t.` you can discuss this in more detail as they mature a little. neither of my boys are circumsized, my husband is, but it doesn`t bother them. they understand their parents made a different decision than grandma & grampa, and in fact my sister had her boys circumsized and our boys had baths together plenty when they were younger and they never paid attention to the difference.
monica9 (270.1 days ago)yes. I believe most men have been circumsized and I`d hate to think my son might be self conscious when he`s older!
