depends on where in the world you live, your insurance, and whether or not you have complications. I got a couple early early on, the 20 wk and they say they will only do another if she is measuring really big etc at 36 weeks.

my dr does two one around 20 weeks and another around 36 to check size and position for birth

I was told I would only have 1... now at my big u/s he was breech so I was told that i would have another one to confirm that he has turned. but if he hadnt been breech.. I wouldnt be getting another!

I know in England it`s common to have only the 12 week and 20 week scan in an average pregnancy, although sometimes one more later in pregnancy to check position etc.

in scotland we have a dating scan when you first find out (if you dont know how far along you are) then a 12 weeks scan, then a 19 weeks scan and then later on to see baby`s position for labour im sure

im having my 3rd and most likely u/s on wednesday, u can always ask your doctor

I think it depends on your doctor and the situation. With my 1st pregnancy the doctor did 2, with this pregnancy I`ve had like 4. Some only give one, it really just depends, but it doesn`t hurt to ask the doctor if you`ll be having another ultra-sound.
