Baby-poll poll How much TV time do your kids get?
(Baby poll by jeanette, 305 days ago)
a half an hour a day or less. It's best to limit it.
1-2 hours a day
3-4 hours a day
5 or more hours a day. These new kid's shows are great.

i agree with jeanette, bratz dolls are horrible, now way will i let my daughter play with one. i think though about tv, i dont want my children to think tv is so wonderful because they get it for a treat, but i think an hour a day is fine. i dont want my family`s life to be so focused on television that they place a huge amount of importance on it. in my house, it is there, but theres nearly always something way more fun to do...drawing, felt board stories, painting, craft activities, playing outside on the swings or trampoline, going down the creek to catch tadpoles, you know kid stuff!

when my baby is old enough to watch tv, it wont be often. kids these days have no imagination because a lot of them sit like zombies in front of the tv. when i was a kid i was outside running around pretending to be a princess or a unicorn or something, and thats what i want my daughter doing.

Our son only likes to watch Curious George- but he could watch it for hours on end. He is allowed to watch it before daycare- only about 15 min. and then the TV stays off until after dinner. So between that and when we start getting ready for bed, it is only another 30- 45 min. tops. So about an hour a day. This is important for when he starts to have homework- we won`t have to battle the TV- we already have a block of time for it. Also, it is a big deal if it is a positive show where they can learn about the world, new vocabulary, problem solving skills or prereading skills. A lot of PBS shows target those skills.

I have noticed that parents who want their kids to entertain themselves are the ones who don`t care how much TV they watch. I do think both the content and the amount needs to be highly regulated. I think an hour a day is completely sufficient. And I would never allow the TV to get turned on in the mornings before school. (not to mention the people who have the TV in the car for the 20 min. trip across town!)

I`ve always loved science programs ever since I was a kid. What in the heck happened to A$E? It used to be so good for kids, now it`s all murder and gans and crime, even during the day. And comercials geared toward kids make me sick. They`re all for high sugar, low fiber food, and toys that teach shallow values (what are little girls learning from those nasty bratz dolls)? Okay, I`m done ranting.

I nannied two children that grew up without a television in the home and that`s what I intend for my children (I do like to watch movies and shows without advertisements though.) I do not like the idea of people sitting in a boardroom tryng to figure out how to get my money through my child`s mind. It`s wonderful when kids don`t have a lot of wants because they haven`t been subjected to commercials... That`s been my experience at least.

You`d be surprised how much kids actually like educational-type shows (documentaries, Animal Planet, et cetera.) You figure they`d just want to watch cartoons, but that`s not true at all.

depends on the day ~ week days they watch it in the morning eating breakfast before school. Afternoon they watch it in the late evening prior to bed for an hour or so ~ weekends maybe a bit more ~ we dont have a set rule on it, never needed it. They love the discovery shows, animal planet educational shows etc so I see no reason to not allow them to watch those. When its nice out they love going out and could care less about the TV so its not a concern. I have kids who visit to play outside and at their house they are limited so when they get here they are transfixed on it and dont want to go outside to play. That concerns me ~ TV is no big deal to my kids cause we dont make a big deal of it ~ if that makes sense, lol. (course it is a big deal what they watch but we dont let them know we are watching them closer then they realize) They are 12 and 8. Its not the hours I concern over its what they watch and that when they arent watching it they are getting excersize ~ thats whats important in my opinion.
