nyebaby (288.5 days ago)I agree that this may be normal at this stage, however, my son kept doing this and at 6 weeks my Dr. had me start suppplementing with formula because I was not producing enough to keep up with him. He is a much happier baby now (even though I hated having to use formula) It will probably get better, but if not, you may want to check with your Dr in case you have this problem too.
michelle (290 days ago)ohh you poor thing, my little girl use to do the same thing.I kept pulling her off & changing her nappy to wake her up but she just loved my boob.I think it was a comfort thing most the time but its too early to worry about it like elmera said they usually do this to build up your milk supply. Most hospitals have day stays and help you with breastfeeding problems so maybe you should book yourself in if your worried..breastfeeding takes awhile to get established but once you get the hang of it, its quick and easy
caitlin h (290.3 days ago)How frustrating for you! I remember when my little guy wanted to do that and I wanted to cry b/c I felt like I was just nursing ALL DAY! First, let me say that it does get better! My son is three months old and is usually done with both sides in a total of 15 minutes! I agree with what most of the other ladies say- make sure he is swallowing and not just sucking fast- keep him awake (I rub my baby`s head) so that he keeps drinking. When he has stopped drinking and is just sucking, then pop him off to burp. Are you using a pacifier? As long as he is eating and latching on well, when you pop him off after eating quickly stick a pacifier in. He may just want to suck for comfort to help him sleep- and you don`t want to be his pacifier!! :) If you aren`t planning to use one, then just snuggle him and let him fuss for a while (as long as you are sure that he has eaten and just wants to suck). Chances are he will settle down, he`s just mad that he doesn`t get his boob-toy anymore! Most of all, trust your instincts- you know best, Mama!
RobinG (290.7 days ago)BF babies rarely burp so I`d wait til he`s done and then see if he needs to burp. Burping is only for IF they have a bubble and BF babies dont usually get bubbles/air. If he is falling asleep I would undress him or play with his hands feet etc while he is nursing to wake him or keep him awake without having to remove him to get him to nurse. Or tap under his chin or cheek to wake him (())
kater (290.9 days ago)my daughter did this too, and i know how frustrating it can be. i found changing posture or moving a little when you see baby starting to drop, anything to keep them awake and feeding! i used to tap a little beat on her nappy which worked well, but as elmera says it will help to establish supply with all that sucking. when baby starts to fall asleep and pulls on you r nipple, try to have you little finger ready to place into the side of bubs mouth to release the suction before you nipples get to `dragged on` if my daughter fell REALLY asleep, i wouldn`t worry about waking her to burp her either, id just wait till she woke naturally, that way she and i got a few mins rest between feeds
elmera (291 days ago)this is very normal... in the first 6 weeks babies often do this, its to establish the milk supply he needs. i know its very exhausting for you but you are doing great and it will get better i promise... ive breastfed 5 babies and will be doing it with this one too. in a few weeks you will look back and think `i did it` (also im guessing he just loves being that close to his mummy) im a breastfeeding counsellor so if you want to ask me anything feel free im ALWAYS happy to help
