It`s not the sex itself, but the contraction of the uterus from having sex/orgasims. That will cause the uterus to think it`s time and continue to contract. This only works when your cervix is `ready` though.

I told my doctors that I didn`t want to be induced and she told me to start having sex as often as possible, not because labor will miraculously begin but because the semen has a hormone that helps to ripen the cervix (prostaglands???) and my orgasm helps in some way too. Oh, she recommended this at around Week 32.
