erphn (229.2 days ago)Okay, that would be an individual case. This sounds like it`s a sudden onset of eating every 1-1.5h. Which is a growth spurt. Growth spurts happen 2-3 wks, 5-6wks, 3 months and 6 months.
nyebaby (229.3 days ago)I had a similar problem for the first 6 weeks with my son. It turned out he was not getting enough milk from me, and my Dr had me start supplementing with formula. Baby is much happier now. I pump milk to mix with the formula and my supply has not decreased.
elmera (229.7 days ago)as always i agree with erphn, its time for a growth spurt lol. keep going with your milk and it will settle. you are doing brilliant!
erphn (229.8 days ago)Congrats - your 5 week old has hit another growth spurt - don`t worry, won`t last forever. Don`t supplement - he`s increasing your milk supply.
vismum (229.8 days ago)It is definitely normal! Formula will not help. Your breast milk will vary in fat content depending on his caloric needs, just let him nurse all he wants. It may feel like forever but he WILL get into a routine that you can both live with, I promise! I remember nursing my daughter for an hour and her wanting more almost immediately afterwards. I know it is very draining, but it will get easier. Keep up the good work, and don`t worry, it is totally normal:)
summerisis (229.8 days ago)My lactation consultant said that the best way to weak a child from breastfeeding is to supplement so I wouldn`t try supplement unless you`re ready to quit with the breastmilk.
JennSever (229.9 days ago)are you letting the baby nurse long enough so that he/she gets the hindmilk that contains all the fat? the hindmilk looks like cream, very white.
