Ady-and-Maylies-Momma`s poll Show results | Hide results

Baby-poll poll My daughter will only be 15 months by the time the new baby is due. We aren`t sure about the whole crib situation. I think 15 months is a bit young to have a todler bed, but then again...I`m new to them so I`m not sure. Should I get a todler bed so that the new baby can have her crib, or do you ladies think I need to get another crib. The baby will probably sleep in my room for two months, so by the time the `switch` comes around, my daughter will be 17 months. I`m so confused...HELP!!! :)

Nope, she's to young for a todler bed...better buy a second crib!
She'll be old enough, just put a gate in her doorway just in case.
Comment if you have any ideas...I really appreciate it!

With my son i had goals..by his first b-day he was off the bottle and usng sippy cups, and was out of the crib and in a toddler bed with bed rail. We used a baby gate so in the morning he couldnt get into mischief...he would wake up, stand at the baby gate and yell MAMA! LOL Cutest thing ever! Good luck!

I think if you`re not sure about a toddler bed or another crib then maybe you should buy on of them convertible cribs that turn into a toddler bed that way you dont have to buy the bed later on.

No, my crib doesn`t turn into a todler bed. I just HAD to have a round crib...but didn`t really plan on a second coming this soon! :) But thank you ladies with all your help. I`m not exactly sure about what we`re going to do yet, but I have a little time to figure it out. You guys have lots of good points! I don`t know what I`d do without you!!!

Im not too sure what type of crib you already have, however i do know that most cribs these days come with more then one option, toddler bed, double bed, and day bed. Does your crib do this.. Honestly i think you may have to buy a second crib regardless..

Really it depends on what stage your child is at developmentally. My children were climbing out of their cribs by 12 months. I was afraid they would get hurt. So I bought them toddler beds around a year old. If she sleeps through the night and is able to get into and out of a toddler bed then I see no reason she can`t have one now. Why buy another crib when you already have one and you will end up buying a toddler bed shortly after? I`m not sure if I agree with keeping a child in a crib so they can`t get out. Soon they will have to switch to a bed and they will have to learn to stay in it. I think the younger they are taught this the easier it is.

my son will be almost 17 months by the time his little baby brother/sister is born. when our second child is born they will sleep in their basinette until about 3 months like our son, and then at that stage we`ll move them into the playpen because they`ll still be in our room, but the crib is too big. a few months later we`ll move them into the crib in their brothers bedroom. by this point they`re between 10-12 months old and our first is 27-29 months old, which i feel is old enough for a toddler bed and they`re moved into the crib. worked for us with our son and will make it an easier transition without the need of buying a second crib.

my daughter was 23 months when she got her big girl dora bed. they say you can put a child as young as 17 months into a toddler bed. and they do have rails u can put up that almost encloses the whole thing. if i were in ur situation i would go ahead and give the baby the crib. if u are worried about ur daughter getting up and leaving the room just put a gate at the door. another thing is that they get so excited to be in a `big girl bed` that they want to be in it. my daughter actually went in her room and would tuck herself in. of course at 3 they dont like bed time anymore lol. i would try it, there is no sense in buying another crib. most at that age can almost master the art of climbing out of the crib (like mine)lol

Hmmm...This is a great question! My daughter will be a little over 19 months when Mariah is born, I am not sure what I am going to do. I have a toddler bed already, but then again I don`t quite think I am ready to take MaKayla out of her crib yet. Let me know what you decide.

wow, my daughter went into a regular size bed at 14 months, not for any reason except she hated her crib, so unless like tired mommy said, she isn`t walking consistently,or she is a `get-up-several-times-in-the-nighter` theres no reason for her not to be in a bed.

my girls r 18 months apart. my older is 27 months now and still sleeps in her crib. if i would put her in a bed there is NO WAY she would stay in it :) and if i would put a gate at the door, she would find a way to clib over it. i would have no peace of mind at nite.

Has she been walking long...or maybe she hasn`t started just yet. My daughter didn`t walk consistently until 14 1/2 months, so I wouldn`t have considered a toddler bed at all that early for her. It depends on your kiddo. 15 months seems kind of young to me, but only you know your daughter. My daughter is almost 3, and just now getting ready to switch to a toddler bed - so that the new baby in Aug can have her crib. (Also: she slept in her pack-in-play bassinet until she was 6 mos in our room. So she didn`t start using her crin until 6 mos. Maybe you have longer than you think.)

If you can afford to buy another crib (or look second hand) then do it. My girls will be 22 months and I don`t plan on switching them to toddler beds until they are used to the new babies in the house. There will be enough changes going on, no point changing more then you need to.

  1. Does anyone have a baby with a double-first name? Like David-James? My friend wants to give her baby a double name but she isn`t sure how to fill it out on the birth certificate. She wants it to be David-James and that is what she will call him but she also wants to give him a middle name. Does she need to put a hyphen? We would appreciate any help with this as no one seems to know. Thanks
