My mother just recently passed away unexpectedly and since I found out I was pregnant the day after she passed, both my sisters want me to name my little girl after her. I am having a hard time with that. My mother didn`t like her name. That and the fathers mother has passed to when he was very young so if I incorperate my mothers name in there I feel as though we should incorperate his mother also.

I didn`t feel pressure, but I took my moms name, Lorraine, and made my own name, Lorrin. I just wanted my daughter to have something a little different, but still have a little connection.

I don`t feel pressured at all..especially since my parents don`t even know yet! I am, however, using my mom`s maiden name as the middle name--Champagne and we think my great-great grandfather as the first for a boy, Maximillian or Emma/Olivia/Lily (don`t know yet) Clare (G-mom). Since husband name gets the last name--I still go by my maiden name, we want to honor my heritage, too.

My sister named all 4 of her children really odd names and my husband and I have always wanted classic names. So we decided if it is a boy to name the baby after the grandfathers and if it is a girl after the grandmothers. Both of our families are close knit and it meant so much to everyone when we announced what our name choices were. Before we mentioned the family names - NO ONE EVER mentioned naming after, etc. I agree with gr8scottswife, do NOT let anyone influence you and your husband`s decision. This is YOUR baby to name! its hard b/c if you have your mothers then you need to have your MIL`s then you feel bad for your father and FIL and feel the need to have their names incorporated into it if you have a boy. Its a never ending vicious cycle. Good thing our family doesnt care either way. Its actually my grandmother that wants us to have the middle be hers. she doesnt say it but we can tell. i will just leave that to my sisters and cousins to fight out!

P. S. I have actually told someone that if she wants to name a baby, have her own. I belive it was my mother I told this to. When it comes to the name, I am fiesty, and ordinarily, I`m meek.

Nobody could force me to choose any name I didn`t want for my baby.
