I am 30 weeks and a week or so ago I had kind of a stabbing pain in my cervix and my doctor just told me it is just the cervix `ripening` which I believe is the same as efacement.

I also am not sure what the question actually is but I too have never been able or heard of anyone else feeling pain in the cervix. The cervix is the `ring` around the uterus that atually does the dilation and effacement.

I would def get that checked out. I have to admit that I have never felt my cervix from the inside (ie, not with my finger if you know what I mean) - go by your gut feeling. If you think something needs checking, get it checked and insist if you have to.

I am kinda not sure what you are asking.. but if this helps at all.. I have been having contractions on and off for a week. and Friday I also started with the back labor.. I am 39 weeks.. at all my appointments they have been just telling me i am thinning out becuase I lost the plug, but now today I am 50% effaced but not dilated and today has been the worst back labor! I dont know if that helps at all..
