steLLar (154.5 days ago)I found that it was more informative for my boyfriend. He learned a lot during our 6 week course! Us women know a lot already from reading up on things.. I definately think it`s a good thing for the husbands/partners!
absoluties (154.6 days ago)At most hospitals or birthing centers, they have a nurse who helps you in the beginning, showing you how to feed the baby, and all the basic necessities. Here in Canada, they have a nurse visit you a week after, at home, from the government, to check on everything, and by that time you would have a few questions that she answers you and helps you with. Besides, at any time, there`s a nurses hotline that you can call for any general information, and they can transfer you to a lactation consultancy hotline too if you need it.
Other than that, I will look things up online, and take my mom`s and family advises and weight them against what`s applicable nowadays.
Don`t worry too much, they say the first year is the best, you fed baby, change baby, try to enjoy it to the max!
njstewy (156.5 days ago)most of it is common sense, but there were things that I didn`t know that they teach you, like how to tell if your baby is feeding well and how to sponge bath a baby
lisa-82 (156.6 days ago)i think everyone`s right when they say `mother instincts come natural`....there was so many things i was worried about if i would know how to do them-but it all came natural...its so diff when its your baby and not someone else`s!! i didnt take any classes and glad i didnt spend any money on that. between my mom and my 2 closest friends that have kids-i`ve got plenty of people to go to for advice.
masha (156.7 days ago)i actually did take an infant care class before i had my first. it was offered by my hospital. i did find it very helpfull. it gave me a lot of little tips i didnt know. i felt more comfortable taking care of a new baby as i knew what to do.
tiredmommy (156.7 days ago)I took a class that was only about 2 hours long one evening. I had been babysitting my infant nephew a lot before that, so all the info I got from the class I already knew. I DO recommend it for those with little or no experience. It`s funny, b/c I took a birthing class that was several weeks long to prepare for labor and delivery. However, the parenting class (which we`ll be parents forever from now on) only lasted 2 hours. Kind of backwards.
