captshelley (134.1 days ago)My girl is almost 6 months and we don`t have a routine. I go with her flow and I`d say 5 out of 7 days she is consistant.
cherryrose (134.1 days ago)I never set a routine, Ean just fell into one once I went back to work. I dont schedule things out with him, when he is hungry I feed him, when he is tired I put him down for a nap...with time you will be able to tell when your lil one is hungry or tired and you will also notice a trend
RobinG (134.2 days ago)Depends on the routine ~ if you are talking feeding then let the baby dictate intially and see what routine or pattern the baby creates ~ if you are talking bathing, bedtime and things you do leading to that point then you can start any time. I always had a routine for feeding and bedtime as far as location ~ I always fed last feeding in their room with lights off and dim hall light, even if they slept in my room so they becuase secure and felt safe in their room. I also made a point by 4 weeks to have them nap in their room again so the transtion to crib was smoother. As well as floorpaly time in their too ~ I always fed with a blanket near their cheek to create a security blanket and to this day they all used it as a soother and it was so much easier to console with it. But to set a time/hours for feedings for example every 2 or every 3 etc etc you need to let baby dicate ~ esp since that changes as they grow and go through growth spurts and become more alert. Same goes for naps ~ they sleep almost all the time the first month or 2 so to set a nap routine before then is pointless ~
joyfulnoise (134.2 days ago)I started right away with only letting it be dark in their room at night. I found that the their brains will figure out night and day if simply given the right amount of light and dark at the right times of day. When my babies wake up at night, I never turn a light on or talk. Also, I slowly shorten the amount of time they eat at night. During the day, I keep them awake as much as possible, talk to them, have longer feeding times etc.. I`ve had all 3 of mine so far sleeping through the night by 6 weeks, hopefully this next one will to. :-) I like having a routine right away, it makes me feel in control and like I have a plan.
kater (134.2 days ago)i think its best and easiest to let the baby dictate the routine. if you try to push baby into doing everything your way, it is much harder than simply working baby out. tying to do the same things at the same time though, bathtime ect should be done at the same time everyday if possible from the day bub is born. work WITH your baby rather than expecting this new little person to follow a predetermined routine is the path to a (slightly) less stressed first few weeks. i found out the hard way that these small new people have a LOT of personality, and arnt afraid to show it!!
