RobinG (214.2 days ago)I agree with MelissaJoanne ~ a physical wouldnt hurt just to check but I think you look great! As long as you are healthy you should do just fine so time to `Git busy`, hehehehe :)
tiredmommy (214.3 days ago)A common reason for unexplained weight gain is hypothyroidism - which is when your thyroid isn`t producing enough thyroid hormone for your body. I was diagnosed with it when I was 22, after a small lump was felt in my throat (on my thyroid). I was gaining weight, but I thought it was due to a lower metabolism from getting older. (Of course, 22 is not old - I`m 30 now.) It`s a VERY common condition - mostly in women, but most aren`t aware of it. It`s not a big deal and is easily treated - just a pill a day and blood tests to check up on it. If you get diagnosed with it, the medication won`t make you lose weight, but will help you stop gaining with no cause. IT`S VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE YOU`RE NOT HYPOTHYROID BEFORE GETTING PREGNANT, AND IF YOU ARE TO GET IT TREATED PROPERLY! Untreated hypothyroidism can cause problems, such as miscarriage, mental retardation in the baby, premature birth, etc. So it`s very important to have it checked if you have any symptoms at all. I`m 31 wks pregnant with my 2nd child, and doing great. My daughter is healthy and wonderful, and my unborn son seems to be terrific. As long as the condition is treated, everything is OK. Good luck!
MSUSpartan (214.3 days ago)I too was overweight and trying to get pregnant. My doctor spelled it out pretty plainly to me. She said that you`re going to gain weight while pregnant and most or many find it hard to lose that baby weight afterwards. She said that if I`m struggling now, I`m going to really struggle later because I`ll have that much more to lose. That made perfect sense to me and I worked on losing the weight. Also, it helps me to not feel like a total beached whale right now while I am pregnant since I started out with a lower weight that normal.
monica9 (214.3 days ago)well, first, 189 doesnt say much about how big you are. it all depends on how tall you are and the amount of muscle you have. I think if your bmi is under 30 you should be fine. having healthy, well-balanced diet is most importnant when becoming pregnant. if you think you need to lose a few pounds then it never hurts to try. if you think you are in well enough shape, then i say go for it and make sure you eat healthy throughout the pregnancy. go to www.mypyramid.gov and get familiar with healthy eating while pregnant. good luck
BabyGonzales (214.3 days ago)I think you will be fine as long as you eat healthy and keep active during your pregnancy. I think its different for everyone no matter the weight. Ive talked to some thin women who are going through some difficulty pregnancies and also there are some big women who go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies. I think if you are really concerned then you should ask your doctor before getting preggo. Good luck and I hope things go as you want. =)
MormonBaby (214.3 days ago)I have heard that being overweight can make a pregnancy much more uncomfortable for the mother, I only weighed 138 when i first got pregnant and It still hasn`t been a joy ride.
dvsrunt (214.4 days ago)Sweetie!! I`m not sure how tall you are but we look like the same build. I am 184 pounds and 19 weeks pregnant. I have been 184lbs exaclty since I was doing fertility treatment. My doctor said as long as I eat well and take my vitamins she isnt concerned with weight gain just yet. I say go for it!! As long as you dont over gain, then you dont have to worry about loosing. (my girlfriend gained 65lbs and hard a really hard time!). I am hoping to gain about 20lbs...which my doctor said is ok for my weight and height (I`m 5`2` and a half! LOL)
ibaheir2dathrone (214.4 days ago)Hello, I have been FAT all of my life. I was 333lbs last year. I got down to 275 in early March of this year. I am now 11weeks 1 day preg. and weigh 271. I plan on losing more after the baby. :o)
mariettap (214.4 days ago)Have you thought about stopping in at your general family doc or your OBGYN for a physical? It`s a good idea to check things out and put out any fires before you get going. You might start some light exercise or find you need some follow up testing--all great to get done before beginning the big journey.
pamiesue22 (214.4 days ago)I`m only 5 foot tall and weighed 169 pre pregnancy. I seriously did not want to hit that 200 mark, but it sooner or later it happened. I have had no complications so far and am in my 34th week. If you are still debating whether or not to get pregnant by the time I give birth, I will let you know how everything goes!
MelissaJoanne (214.4 days ago)Oh I wanted to add - Before I got pregnant I had gained extra weight due to medication that I`d had to take for a chronic disease. I think I was about 180 when we started trying to concieve (normal weight for me is 140 -150 range). I knew the weight would come off eventually since it was medication water weight, not fat I`d gained (and I eat incredibly healthily, and exercise regularly). When I actually got pregnant in a couple months, I was closer to 160. I`ve so far only gained about 6 pounds (halfway through pregnancy). Baby is healthy and growing perfectly, I`ve mostly just gained baby, breast, and hip weight. I think that I look more trim and fit now than when we started trying to conceive and I had extra medication weight - now I`m slim but with a baby bump. :-)
MelissaJoanne (214.4 days ago)I just checked your page and you have wedding pictures up from about a month ago... you look gorgeous (and not overweight!). Many people tend to gain some weight right after they get married, so that may be a contributing factor. Check with your doctor (asp. if you think there is a medical reason for unexplained weight gain), but I`d say unless dr. has objections. start trying to get pregnant! Overweight women can concieve and healthily carry a baby to term, they just traditionally gain less weight while pregnant than an `average` size woman. Make sure you`re making healthy food decisions, and taking care of your body with exercise, and try to conceive. It might take a while if it`s meant to, and you may lose the weight in that time. Or you might get pregnant right away and it won`t be an issue. So if you have a blessing and a clean bill of health from your doctor, make a baby. Good luck!
