It is a wivestale to a certain degree...it is in fact true that girls have a higher metabolism than boys and if you measured the heart rate of a baby boy and a baby girl at the exact same rest state then yes, the girls would be marginally higher..but therein lies the problem...most of us go by the doppler rate we get given at the drs or have at home...we can`t see the baby...and it is no different than us, if we kick our legs or move around what happens to our heart rate? It goes up, same for baby and sometimes we can`t feel them moving their arms etc so you have no way of knowing what state of rest he/she is at when getting the fhr unless you are watching on an u/s screen..hope this helps...but just for fun...I am pregnant with my 4th, I only find out at my amnio in 3 days the sex, but my other 3 were 2 girls then my son and the girls were consistently around 160 and my son was around 130-140.

was 169 at 9 weeks and went down to 150`s between 12 and 19 weeks and by the middle to end of 3rd trimester it was always between 125-160. its so random. I had a girl. my friend had a girl also and her baby ranged from 110-130 the whole pregnancy.

My babies heartrate around 12-19 weeks was around 155. I am having a girl!

For both my girl and boy it was mid 150`s, the Dr says heartbeats cannot distinguish sex and that it`s an old wives tale

170s and will go down throughout the pregnancy. By birth the rate should be in the 120s. The bigger they get the lower their rates are.

With this pregnancy it started in the 170`s to 160`s and even in the 150`s. Im having a boy!!

babys heart rate has consistently been 160 or above except for my 20 week ultrasound when the baby was asleep and inactive and it was only 131. i guess im not much help as i dont know the gender though. but i am pretty sure its a little girl.
