Alise (86.8 days ago)My parents are really healthy....pretty close to health freaks, and theyve done some studying on cows milk, and it really isnt meant for people. Our bodies cant break it down like the calves can. My sister isnt a health freak like my parents, shes your average eat pretty much ne thing, but she gives her daughter (18 month rice milk or soy. (i think my niece likes the rice better) She started giving this to her at about 12 months.
lskill (94 days ago)I was told to have the baby swiched over BY 12 months, so I started at 10 1/2 or 11 months. I would do 25% milk & 75% formula for a week, then 50/50 for a week, then 75/25 for the last week. Also, once we went to 100% milk, we took away the bottle and used only sippy cups. Bottles were for babies and big girls got milk in big girl cups. They responded well to that.
kameeder (98.6 days ago)If you are not going to have a well rounded diet, then they will lose a lot of the nutrients that come from the formula if you try to switch before they are a year old.
mamacakes (99.2 days ago)PS...about the vitamins....once they are off of formula they should be on liquid vitamins to supplement....my Dr. gave me scripts for the vitamins. They are liquid and given with a dropper once a day...
KateOhm (99.2 days ago)Robin, my 4 year old has to drink Lactaid and it has a much longer expiration date too, but once you open the container it is only good for 7 days.
RobinG (99.2 days ago)Interesting ~ :) Hunters apmnt will be in a few weeks for his 9 month so will have to ask him what his views are. And on a side note ~ my sister and I were at the store the other day, she too uses organic and she showed me that the expiration dates on organic milk is much longer then regular milk. Doesnt go bad as fast ~ if the babies have trouble digesting regular milk I wonder if the stuff in it effects the baby like the stuff does to air making it go bad sooner and that organic will be easier to adjust to ~ just a thought. Anyone know why organic last longer?
mamacakes (99.2 days ago)I was told with my first to have him completely on cows milk by 12 months. So at around 10 months i SLOWLY started introducing it to him mixing it little by little in his formula bottle.
RobinG (99.2 days ago)That is where I saw it was often told to give earlier then a year ~ Canada so I wondered why.
KateOhm (99.3 days ago)Both of my boys have Milk and Soy Protein Intolerance, so they have to be on Lactaid but it still isn`t introduced until 12 months.
spencerbaby1 (99.4 days ago)i live in canada and at my work a mom said that her doctor told her that as long as the baby is eating mostly table foods then he could be switched to cows milk. he was 9 months at that time
alex76 (99.4 days ago)I`m in the UK. But I`ve been told full fat cow`s milk after 12 months and then you can give skimmed milk after 24 months.
