harpchick (92.3 days ago)I`m a professional harpist, so my babies spend their entire gestations physically pressed up against the harp while I play. My children recognized and reacted to various songs right from birth. Pachelbel`s `Canon in D` gets my youngest child rowdy every time because of the adrenaline spike I`d have every time I played it for a bride coming down the aisle. I was able to notice very distinct, almost rhythmic kick patterns while I was playing specific pieces, as well. There`s a really good book called `The Mozart Effect` that talks about this phenomenon at length. For what it`s worth, both my kids are very musical and play multiple instruments, and my daughter appears to have perfect pitch, so exposing the kids to music while still in the womb appears to definitely affect them. With the babies, when they were cranky, I would just start playing the harp and it would settle them right down.
steLLar (97.7 days ago)I sang `You are my Sunshine` to my baby all the time when I was pregnant, especially the times she was moving like crazy. When I had her, in the hospital she was fussy and I started singing it and it calmed her immediately. She`s 4 weeks old now and it still works :)
RobinG (97.9 days ago)I prefer the singing of the song versus playing ~ it helps so much more when it comes to soothing your baby cause they know your own voice ~ and you may not always have that song with you. I sang you are my sunshine with all my kids throughout pregnancy and it helped sooth them when they were born too :) I sang it at least once a day :)
kater (97.9 days ago)lol, well, i did kind of the same thing..... i had a `thing` for a tv show called `red dwarf` when i had my daughter, my brother has the series, so it used to be on all the time, and when Olivia was born, when she heard the theme music, she would always settle really well. not sure if this is what your going for :) but i am certain babys hear in utero, and yes they recognize and are soothed by sounds they know
