windchime`s poll Show results | Hide results

Pregnancy-poll poll I don`t want to be induced but I know sometimes the doc will recommend it if you are past your due date. Typically, when would that happen (where doc pretty much tells you that you need to be induced)?
(Pregnancy poll by windchime, 45 days ago)
A few days after your due date.
5-10 days after your due date.
10-15 days after your due date.
They don't induce unless there's a problem with your baby.

around 2 weeks past your due date your placenta slowly begins to stop functioning... if not caught in time baby can die... that`s why docs will usually induce 1-2 weeks after due date

My doctor wouldn`t let me go more than 10 days over with my 1st, I went into labor the day before I was to be induced.

I was induced twice so far. First time, I went 19 days PAST my due date. I went to my regular dr. visit and my dr. noticed I was swollen (toxemia) - so they induced me that day. I had to leave his office and go straight to the hospital. That was with my daughter back in 1986 (22 years ago). With my 2nd baby, I was induced 2 weeks before my due date. I was induced for 2 reasons. 1. Advanced maternal age (I was 39 years old) and 2. I had gestational diabetes (baby can get really big). I`ve never had a natural child birth. I guess it greatly depends on the situation and what your symptoms are. I think you ultimately have a say in whether or not your induced unless it`s a medical emergency. Some women will jump at the chance to be induced past their due date. Just remember though, that if you go too far past your due date, the placenta becomes `old` and doesn`t properly nourish your baby. Not to frighten you or anything, but your baby can die or get seriously sick from being in the woumb too long (42 weeks or more).
