If my husband or I (or a family member) had one of the medical conditions that would be treated by a stem cell transplant (sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, leukemia, metabolic storage disorders and certain genetic immunodeficiencies) I`d definitely do it. Since these conditions don`t run in our families I think I`m going to donate it. There`s someone else out there that can use it for their family.

I saw the commercial yesterday and got online to look up pricing and was SHOCKED at how expensive it is! I was considering saving the blood up until I saw the price! I think I am going to go the donation route. Just don`t have that kind of money!

i was told at my maternity hospital that so many people donate, they only need to collect it from babys born in business hours (so we couldnt donate) but it only lasts so long a couple of years i think, and so ridiculously expensive, it really didnt seem worth it. we were told (Queensland, Australia) that there really isnt a shortage, because donating your bubs cord blood is so popular, if we ever needed it, cord blood would be readily available if we needed it for our child. i think donate, dont keep it for yourself, its too expensive, and if everyone donated, there would never be any shortages, and everyone would be better off

I recently read that the American Academy of Pediatrics doesn`t recommend it. The cost is way too high. Of course, I am sure we would ALL love to do it and would do it if it were more affordable.

I`m donating my sons. I cant afford to bank it but I dont want to see it go to waste.
