Juniper (1259.5 days ago) Thank you for all the advice ladies. I am planning on attending classes and I am going to do my best for an all natural birth. I`m thinking it can`t be more painful than the first time (Im sure I`m wrong there though lol)
My ob/gyn makes it clear that she prefers if you have an epidural so I wouldn`t say she is supportive of a natural birth. I am just going to have to live with that though because I do trust her 100% medically - she is an incredible doctor so I know I`m in good hands if anything happens.
Another 8 weeks or so and we`ll see what happens!
thanks again!
casper3 (1260.5 days ago) I have had two births, one induced with pitocin and one with one citatec (sp?) tablet. My labors just don`t seem to like to start on their own, even though both times I was 3 cm and fully efaced by the time I was induced. Both labors were done without any medication for pain or an epidural and both labors were 5 hours or less from first contraction to baby. I would do the same thing again in a heartbeat. I think that maybe the contractions are harder, but the labor is shorter and that is worth it to me. The one thing I would say, is if you are not dilated or effaced, that would mean a longer labor and the harder contractions and I wouldn`t do it then. Your body needs to be ready. Also when they gave me pitocin with my first, it was the smallest amount on the scale, they showed me a chart and showed how little they had given me. I would ask them to start with less and only go up to more if it is needed, why give yourself more than you need?
riknlee (1262.5 days ago) I have had both. All my labours have been helped with the drip as I am slow to labour. My second labour began at 2am ish and by morning I was over it and tired and asked for an epidural. My 3rd baby was also coming on slow but by that time, I already had two kids at home so i was more proactive and said lets get this show on the road, give me the drip. they gave me the drip and a bath became available so I jumped in. i only needed gas. At one point I said enough was enough and I wanted something to get me through so they got me out and checked me to find that I was fully dilated and my body began pushing. the pushing took 10 minutes and she was out. You usually get the induced labour if it is going slow. I wouldn`t worry about it too much just go with the flow. No one is there to congratulate you or give you a medal for a natural birth believe me. At that point if you want the baby out and you have had enough you will ask for the drip. You do what you have to
tto (1263.1 days ago) I`ve never been induced or had an epi. But, with my second son, the whole process was much faster. It`s the pitocin that makes the contractions bad- BUT that makes them more productive and speeds up the process even more. From the time I checked in until birth was 4 1/2 hrs and I`d say the last hour or less was the hardest. The only reason they gave me pitocin was to because I wasn`t dilating very much. Since I wanted to go all natural, speeding up the process was probably a good thing.
emy (1263.1 days ago) I was induced (with an epi) and it was cake. I told DH I would have 20 kids if all I had to do was give birth and skip the big ol belly ;-)
Heather12 (1263.1 days ago) Yes being induced is much more painful.I have been induced twice and went in labor on my own once. i had all my babies with no pain meds. My smallest baby was 8 lbs and my biggest 10 lbs. I had my mind set that that is what i wanted. Believing in your self and your body. Keeping your body relaxed and breathing is key. I would for sure go to lamaze classes. Even with my third I went. Good luck!
CassandraLee (1263.2 days ago) Yes, induced labors are much more painful. I had intended on a pain free birth also but after being induced and laboring for 13 hours I couldnt take those aweful contractions anymore. I think if you have naturally brought on contractions you will be able to handle the pain without medicine. Good luck :)
LOL Liquid hell...I love that. SO true
zookeeper (1263.2 days ago) With my first baby labor came naturally and it was horribly painful...and the epidural only worked on one side! With my second I was induced and it was WAY better than the contractions I had with my first...I still opted for an epidural though - I really don`t handle pain very well.
Linda-Rose (1263.2 days ago) Hey there,, I had to be induced for my 1st as she was two weeks late,, they had to give me an epidural as i was in soo much pain, but the epidural didnt even work properly, so not a very nice birth, but my 2nd came 9 days early an i had a water birth which was reall nice ( well as nice as these things are :))
Im on my 3rd pregnancy an am hoping for another water birth, i agree with `Lukesmyboy`, my natural water birth was way less painfull then my 1st,, All the best
LKLmama (1263.2 days ago) I had Pitocin and an epi with my first and went all natural water birth with my second. My medicated birth was far more painful than my natural. My advice would be to start seeing a midwife (if you are not already) who will be supportive of a natural birth, do tons of research, watch videos and have lots of faith and trust in your body! YOU CAN DO IT!!
~Amy~ (1263.2 days ago) My sister had the epidural with her first because pictocin contractions were just awful.. her second was born naturally no inducement and no pitocin and she did fine (Evie was the bigger baby also!).
