The best thing I had that I never knew I needed but was SOOO thankful for was a co-sleeper bed for my little man. Someone gave it to me and I used it every day until he grew out of it. He slept right between us the whole time! Also, a swing. GREAT for naps when they are still little!!!

If you are BF , always wear nursing pads...LOL dont want to start leaking all over the place.

A costco size bottle of grey goose, earplugs and a trip to the shrink. I would say the most useful things I lived with are the bouncer chair, cloth diapers (for burping, putting under them while changing them, etc) receiving blankets or a swaddle me blanket, mylecon drops and infant tylenol.

1) A friend who wants to listen, not talk. 2) A relative that wants to show up, clean house, and quietly slip out the door without interrupting the new mom`s recovery or baby bonding. 3) A partner who is proud of her and ready to help out in any way the new mom asks. 4) A nice new pair of pajamas that are for _her_ not for her baby! 5) The inner strength and confidence to set firm limits with the peanut gallery because everyone has ideas of how she could do her job better, but nobody is as deeply committed to her job as she is. 6) A growing baby to hold in her arms who has eyes for only Mommy and Daddy.

If you are going to try breastfeeding, stock up on lanolin (gel you put on your nipples). Also my newborn loved the velcro infant swaddlers from babies r us. If you have a boy, dont forget to clean the circ every diaper change (if you get him circed) Also, for the first month a book called baby411 saved my life and lessened calls to the doctor!

Diapers!! LOL!! I know you probably already knew that but I had a Diaper shower and all I got was Diapers and Wipes and I will tell you what I had Diapers and Wipes intill my little guy was almost potty trained....

A baby carrier (a sling, a mei tei, or a Bjorn, whichever you like). I couldn`t have managed without one.

Johnson`s and Johnson`s cornstarch powder. Keeps baby dry and smelling oh so sweet! Contoured nursing pads if you`re nursing.

Dr.Smiths diaper rash cream, its like $8 for a tiny tub of it but WELL worth the money, any site of a diaper rash I put that on him and its gone within the next diaper change!!
