CassandraLee (54.6 days ago)I have HPV, not a strain that causes warts. My HPV wasnt an issue for a vaginal delivery. My understanding, from the reseach I`ve done, is that you cant pass the warts onto the baby during vaginal delivery. Risk of passing HPV onto a baby is rare. emy (55.4 days ago)I posted this on my poll about `would you vaccinate against HPV`......(This is my story) I laid in bed last night after I posted this poll, and thought to myself, I need to share my story. When I was 17, my friend and I went to planned parent hood. We had both only had one sexual partner and I couldnt tell my father I needed to go to the gynecologist! (My mom passed away when I was 15) When we got our results back they asked that I make an appointment with a doctor that is covered by my insurance, and that I had an irregular pap. Weeks later I was scheduled for surgery. I had a strain of HPV that had no side effects, and does not cause warts, but left my body fighting stage one cervical cancer. I had a Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (Leep), in which they removed slices of my cervix at 1 and 7 oclock. Losing my mom a few years back to cancer left me and my family traumatized! There are 20 million americans currently affected with an additional 5.5 million expected to contract this each year. If you are sexually active you have a 75%-to 90% chance of contracting a strain of HPV. Sometimes it may lie dormant, and act up years later. Most will never know they have it but can pass it to others. Men have no symptoms unless they have warts. HPV is an STD but there is nothing you can do to protect against it unless you refrain from sex (condoms are not a barrier), or you and your partner have just each other as partners. The fact of it is, it is scary. I was told that I should have my children by 25, and that I am very lucky that it was caught when it was. The chances of my cancer reoccuring still exist, and my cervix has been weakened due to the procedure. It healed very well since I was young and healthy. Moms...We all know that talking about sex with our parents was not fun and in my house was actually non existent. It is something we, well I, actually hid. I`m not saying vaccinate or don`t, but if you arent familiar with the disease, from one IAP friend to another, please just take some time to read up on the facts.
Elijahs Mom (55.5 days ago)I was diagnosed with a strain of HPV (Condyloma) at the beginning of my pregnancy. I thought it was weird because I had just had a pap and test 1 month beforehand and was ok. The doctor said it could have been dormant and showed up when I got pregnant with my immune system getting messed up. They told me having a vaginal birth was just fine and they werent concerned at all. As the pregnancy progressed, it got worse and worse. It was awful for me, but they insisted it might go away after the baby was born or else they had a treatment for it. So after I had the baby (vaginally) they baby was fine and my Condyloma was gone within a week. When I was tested again at my 6 week post partum appointment, it was gone. So I dont know if you have a different strain of HPV, but with mine it was due to suppressed immune system and it wasnt passable to the baby.
