IUD`s are a great option though and I am sure my situation was a one in a million. My sister in law has the mirena and swears by it.

Just had the paragard inserted on Tuesday. I have been bleeding lightly ever since. Not sure if I will like it or not. Insertion was pretty painful- they had to do it several times then checked placement with a transvaginal US to make sure it didn`t `pierce my uterus`.

I had the paragard IUD and after a few months had to have it removed because I kept bleeding heavily and was always spotting and honestly I just did not like it at all.

Hi,
I had the Paragard IUD for about 10 years (that`s how long they said it would last). I had it inserted after the birth of my son (he is now 11). I never had any problems until about the 9th year I had it...then I had some spotting and would bleed sometimes after sex with my bf (now husband). I was pretty concerned so I went to the Gyno and he said that it was probably about time for it to come out. My husband (newly married this year) and I knew we wanted have a child, so I had it removed on that visit. It was very easy and not at all painful. He said that we could start trying for pregnancy as soon as we wanted. I knew I wanted to wait until marriage in June so I had him put me on the pill for about 3 months.
I went off the pill in June and conceived in July. (the first month we tried!) I was worried that having an IUD for such a long time would have affected my chances of conceiving...but obviously that was WRONG! (I am now 20 weeks pregnant! YAY!) I am very pleased that it worked so well for me and hope that it will do the same for you.
At the time I got it I wasn`t ready for anything permanent. Now I know why...I am pregnant for the third (and final)time and couldn`t be HAPPIER! :)
