EvaV`s poll Show results | Hide results

Other-poll poll How are you affected by the Unites States recession and growing economic uncertainty?
(Other poll by EvaV, 1176 days ago)
We are financially secure; not really concerned about it.
We have experienced or will probably experience big losses that will significantly affect our family (loss of home, job, etc.)
We have obviously lost money in our 401k, stock market, etc. but we will weather it through and make up our loses when the economy regains strength.
We will be fine, but either my partner or I has to go back to work full-time or take on a second job.
We are doing better than ever!

I quit my job to save the cost of daycare. Then my mom, who my son and I live with, lost her job. I have had to go on welfare and get food from local food shelves. The economy has hit us very hard in our family.

Like Kater my hubby works in the Building Industry too. We are in the UK, he just heard today 50 joiners(carpenters) are being laid off. He`s lucky though as he works on the smaller contracts and it is th big building contracts such as Museum restorations etc that are being affected. I really feel for those families, especially at this time of year. It seems to be affecting everywhere. Woolworths and MFI both went into administration today and the UK Government are bailing out banks left right and centre.

We moved from Michigan to Wyoming 2 years ago because we were having financial problems then. He had been at his job for 8 years and had been gradually cutting his hours, so he quit his job. He went to Wyoming when I was 36 weeks pregnant with our 3rd baby and found a GREAT job. There are still so many jobs here and not enough people to work. I meet people here every day from all over the country who are coming here for work. The children and I moved here 5 months later after hubby found us a house and we could afford it (he was living in a small camper until then). Today I miss all of my family and friends so much, but I am thankful we have a roof over our heads and food to eat. Had we stayed in Michigan 2 years ago, we wouldn`t have anything. God bless. I just want to add that change is hard...it was so hard to move 1400 miles away and for my hubby and I to be apart for 5 months, but it is the best change we have ever made.

My little ones dad lost his main job back in January-luckily he was also working a part-time job at the time-which he still works at (has since high school). He has been steadily looking for work ever since & has only been called in for one interview-which didn`t pan out. He has even put in applications at Best Buy, Ciruit City, and places like that thinking they would at least be hiring for Christmas help-still nothing. I work part-time, since I was going to school up until June of this year. Luckily, my job is giving me more hours to try to get bills paid, but if things don`t turn around soon, with another due in March I don`t know what we will do, I don`t want to loose my house!

My husband and I bought our home in 2005 and just rented it out. He will be losing his job with a major corporation at the end of 2009. So far, he has had no luck finding a new job despite a great resume and a degree from a prestigious university. We made the decision to move back in with my parents and save money via renting our house. I am looking to begin my masters in nursing in the Fall so I can be a bigger financial contributer. Today, I am definitely thank-ful for my parents generosity in allowing us to move in with them, otherwise we would most likely be losing our house the end of 2009!!! Just wondering how others are adjusting or if I am the only one feeling like I will never be financially secure!

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
