zookeeper (1160.5 days ago) I plan to introduce other foods at 6 months. I must disagree with monica9 though....My pediatrician says it is not necessary for the baby to eat food before 1 year because breastmilk provides everything the baby needs. (I don`t know about formula.) And as proof, I have an almost 5 year old that didn`t eat for the first year even though food was offered to her often. She has always been super healthy. She`s maybe had a cold twice and a stomach virus only once. She has never required a doctor visit for illness.
monica9 (1160.6 days ago) this is coming from my clinical nutrition book.....an infant can befin eating solid foods between 4 and 6 months. the main purpose of introducing solid foods is to provide nutrients that are no longer supplied adequately by breastmilk or formula alone. the foods choosen must be foods that the infant is developmentally capable of handling both physically and metabolically. the exact timing depends on the childs growth rates, activities, and environmental condiditions.
monica9 (1160.6 days ago) their bodies are growing fast and from 6 months on their body needs more nutrients than breastmilk or formula can give them.
EvaV (1160.6 days ago) It seems 6 months is the `magic number` to introduce cereal or other foods. I know there are a lot of women who plan to BF for longer than a year, but I wondering at what point other foods absolutely have to be added.
