I had my son at 37 weeks and he loved to sleep....ALOT. The midwife adivsed me to wake him every 4hours for the 1st week, and said I could let him go upto 5 hours at 2 weeks but no longer. Not till he had got back to his birth weight. Once he gained his weight she said I could let him sleep till he wakes because he will start either taking more in one feed, or having a feed every 2-3 hours then sleeping longer.....HOWEVER, My son is now in the 4 hours routine lol. He is now 7 weeks old. Best thing is to ask your own midwife, if your baby is fine happy healthy, they may say to let him.her sleep through.

I was also told that you should wake them until they`re about 8 weeks old. Try not to let him sleep more then 5 hrs without a feed.

I asked my pediatrician and he said for newborns it isn`t recommended to let your child go more than 4 hours sleeping without feeding. Once he/she has regained his/her birth weight and your doctor gives her blessing then by all means, let him/her sleep.

Let him sleep! If he`s hungry, he`ll wake you up!
