n2moola (1115.8 days ago) I`d say your son needs to pay for the phone. Accidents even in fun can have consequences.
his1-n-only (1115.8 days ago) HA i had this happen to me wen i was like 19, but my phone was about 300. my friends mom wrote me a check right then and there. i must also add that i paid for my phone by working, and my parents didnt buy it for me. i was a single mom and i needed a phone. we all knew it was just a silly thing to do and my friends mom ended up making her get a job to pay her back.
chicklet1525 (1116.5 days ago) It should still be under waranty
Daydays Mom (1118.5 days ago) i would pay half because if they where playing then its both of there fault.
angie2008 (1118.8 days ago) I think you should front the money up for the phone because it wasn`t the friends fault. I would make my kid pay me back for it though by doing things for you, babysitting younger siblings, or anything that you think would make up for the money. That is an expensive phone though, I`m an adult and my phone doesn`t cost that much. good luck
california-mom (1118.8 days ago) How ridiculous they didnt have insurance on an expensive phone. Either way, Id pay for it and have my son work it off.
newcitynewmom (1118.8 days ago) You should pay for the phone and make your son work to pay you back.
xocyncyn (1118.9 days ago) Ask his parents if they have insurance on the phone that way you just have the pay the deductible and not the whole price of the phone. But from what I have learned from experience haha is that eventually the phone will work once again once the water has totally dried off. I would say give it 2 weeks trust me good luck! =]
LKLmama (1119 days ago) Its your sons responsablilty! I think its great you are having him take responsability. NOT ALL PLANS COVER WATER DAMAGE.. I know for a FACT that iphones DO NOT my husband was iphone tech support for a year!
Lookalike (1119 days ago) I don`t think teenagers should have $200 phones in the first place.
gr8scottswife (1119 days ago) I believe that part of the responsibility is the other kids`. If he was near a pool, they were probably going to swim anyway, so he shouldn`t have had the phone on him.
gr8scottswife (1119 days ago) My husband even puts his phone in a bag of rice to get it working again if it gets wet.
jenakers (1119.1 days ago) You can probably find the exact same phone cheaper on Ebay. Bottom line I`d make him give me the damaged phone and replace it.
lisamarie8503 (1119.1 days ago) Haha I have watched judge judy with the same situation. Tell the time find out how much it would be to replace it, provide proof, and then give them money for it. Make sure they sign something saying you gave them money for it.
armymom (1119.1 days ago) omg insurance totally covers water damage!!! I`ve dropped my phone in the toilet (dont ask, lol) and had it replaced. My sister was also pushed into a pool by her husband and she had her iphone on her and it was replaced because it was insured! So I think it`s the other parent`s responsibility. Teenagers lose their phones ALL the time or break them so not having insurance on one is just plain careless. Have you tried fixing the one that he has already. Alot of times if you take the phone apart and blow dry it a couple times a day it`ll work again.
RobinG (1119.1 days ago) Review his plan, many have lost or stolen coverage ~ there is a small deductable ~ it is an optional thing ot have on phones but many I know have them with kids since kids are nutorious for loosing them. Doesnt usually cover water damage so he needs to just say it was stolen. Your son def needs to pay for a new one or the deductable if it is covered..
daffy (1119.2 days ago) Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. We have come up with a good idea...my son has his old drum set that he is willing to sell and said he will use the money to buy his mate a new mobile, he rang his drum teacher today to see how much it is worth, apparently it s worth about $150. He can save the rest by doing jobs for myself and his nan. In the mean time, my sister has an old mobile that she said he can borrow. I cant really afford to go get a new mobile for him... im a little broke at the moment... my mobile broke about 6 months ago and i would love a new one but cant afford it... im borrowing my mums old one at the moment. How does that sound?
cheryl01 (1119.2 days ago) water not sea water, here in seychelles we fix all of these phones... these phones can be fixed...then ask for that damaged phone..see what answer you get... and if you get it get it fixed .. they air dry the water inside..
Christine G (1119.3 days ago) Replaced in a week! Isn`t he 16?!? Wow, well if it were me I would make my son work to get the 200$, since he is 16 and I would pay the 200$ for the phone to the child`s parent.
Carolinagirls (1119.3 days ago) Insurance does not cover water damage so even if his parents had insurance on the phone it would not cover what happened. You son (unfortunately) should have to pay for the phone which means I guess you will have to pay for it if he has no job :-( Like everyone said, make him do chores or whatever he can around the house for as long as you deem necessary in order to pay for it. (and not just half...the whole thing!)
gabezbabe (1119.3 days ago) Hmmm ...I betcha it isn`t REALLY worth $200 =)
Just kidding, it probably is! I say offer to pay for half!
busymommyof3 (1119.4 days ago) OMG! I saw this same situation on Judge Judy a few months back. Since the mom was home she had to pay for it(they were @ her house). I would look on craigslist.org for a used one or on ebay. It they dont want to do that then offer to pay for half. My cellphone was on the last leg and I found one on CL for 15.00 ( it has mp3/camera/etc.). But make your son work it off. I busted a few things when I was kid and my mom made me work it off. I remember that lesson. =)
Aliwitbaby (1119.4 days ago) i`d have your son work to pay it off, so he can pay you back. Even if its just doing the dishes or whatever. Paying for the phone is the responsible thing to do...
MileysMommy (1119.4 days ago) Yeah I would offer to pay half also!
lilmamaaua (1119.5 days ago) I agree- Stupid giving a 15 yr old a mobile that costs $200. Have you spoken with his friends parents and what have they said? They could try putting the cellphone in an airtight jar 3/4 full of uncooked rice for a few days. I think though that if it was your son who was pushed in the pool and had something ruined you would expect it to be replaced. Perhaps you can have your 15 yr old do odd jobs- paper round, dog walking etc as a lesson that his actions have consequence and have him pay you back as he earns it? Even though I`m sure it was an accident and teenage fun and not done in malice he needs to know that you guys aren`t going to bail him out all the time. It`s a tough one.
5against1 (1119.5 days ago) i have 2 teenage boys that do these kinda fun(but stupid) things often, as do their friends too. for example, my kid rides bmx bikes. its a $2000 bike. his friend tried a trick he didnt know how to do and bent a $200 rim. without even asking, the mom paid me for the rim that same day. because it was totally her kids fault, not my kids fault just for having an expensive item. i wouldve done the same thing. the kid who got pushed in the pool has no fault in the situation.
armymom (1119.5 days ago) That kid`s mom is stupid for not having insurance on a cell phone that expensive for a TEENAGER!
I would probably offer to pay half.
