ms.mom you are right.. buying your own high quality pump is better if you know your going to breastfeed for a long time. The only reason I mentioned renting is because I checked Goldenmama`s profile and it said she was still pregnant so I wouldn`t have recommended her buying an expensive pump to start only to realize BFing wasn`t for her. I didn`t realize renting was an option until recently and in my case has been the best option for me as I can`t afford $300 up front for a good pump but I can afford a small monthly payment.

I rented the hospital grade pump for the first four months to pump in addition to breastfeeding. I thought that it was a good investment because it really works. I was able to pump so much milk that I froze it and put it away to use when I went back to work. Both Medela and the Ameda pumps are good but not as good as the hospital grade pump.

Not trying to argue, according to ARMYMOM 32x12 months=384. I bought medula pump n style 2 yrs ago. $200 or less not sure. And then I still have the pump for my next child. So for instance if I breastfed this one for a year a hospital grade pump costing for 24months for both children of $768 (for 2yrs renting from hospital), just $200 for (2 yrs)for the pump that i purchased= $568 of total savings. Totally up to you. Cheaper to use hospital pump if you are going to breastfeed for just a few months however.

it cost no more than buying a can or two of formula. I pay $32 a month.

If I am not mistaken hospitals use the Medela pump... Renting from the hospital more than a few months would be pretty costly. Depends how long you want to breastfeed..

Well, unless money isn`t an issue, then the hospital grade pump is the best.

I breastfed for a year. Medela worked great for me the whole year I worked.

Renting is only good if you aren`t using it for a long time. I plan on breastfeeding for 2 years, so renting for 2 years would cost much more than buying even the most expensive pump.

  5. OMG, I posted on FB (in reponse to a suggestion made to me on From Our House To Yours) that I didn`t like a business because the items were very expensive and my friend got a bad deal there and the owner is threatening to sue me! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I actually paid a consultation fee and my lawyer told me that she was `absurd with possible mental health problems.` I am protected by the fisrt ammendment to express my honest opinions freely where I choose, but he said she can take it to court(because people can TRY to sue over anything) anyway and that it might cost me legal bills. We will both be out a lot of money because she couldn`t possibly win. Can you believe that? FML! First my records and now this! I hope my baby isn`t a bad luck baby. I see people not recommending or recommending businesses all the time on FB!

  8. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.

  10. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
