Other-poll poll How do you feel about Baby Einstein?
(Other poll by Heaven, 1081 days ago)
Awesome! Keeps my kid occupied while I get some much needed rest
Awful! Studies show that it is harmful to my childs learning
Yeah, I know it delays their language skills but I need rest!!
What is Baby Einsteins?

All three of my neices watched them and are above the curve in reading, writing, math, and vocabulary development. Their parents did a lot of extra work with them, and still do. It`s not because of the videos, obviously, but I don`t feel that they had a negative impact on the kids.

I think they are overpriced and if you want educational videos for your kids there are many others on the market that are cheaper and just as great if not better. My daughter loves all the baby sign language videos, but I think the `einstein` thing is just a gimmic to make you think it`s making your kids smarter by spending more.

I don`t know where these scientist get their research from or if my son is the exception. He really was never into tv until he turned 1 but he started watching stuff like Seseme Street and Backyardigans and it has NOT detered his talking ability. He is 2 and can talk alot and he is bilangual. If anything those shows have helped him learn his numbers and ABC`s with a little help and encouragement from us of course but the TV`s shows made learning fun for him. Thats just my opinion though, I mean I`m not a big educated scientist haha...

Some mothers are single and have to do something. My sister-in-law said as much, and her children are great! I allow Ada to watch every now and then, especially in the mornings so that I can get into bed with my hubby (to make more babies. lol). Anyway, lately, she could care less about television, so she just looks around or plays while it`s on. She used to turn her head and stare every time it was on, no matter what it was, but now she could care less. We don`t have the television on much. Specifically, Baby Einstein, I`ve read that it can cause hyperactivity because of the different colors and flashing those videos, specifically, use. I don`t think the hyperactivity is applicable to all television, just the Baby Einsteins, so no, I wouldn`t let my child watch Baby Einstein.

I think it will effect language skills if you use it as a replacement for your attention just so you can get things done. I would prefer to use the `Your Baby Can Read` DVDs instead of Baby Einstein but make sure you talk to your baby and don`t let them watch it all day every day.

I don`t understand why a parent would let their baby watch any television, let alone purposely have them watch a baby video. Here`s one excerpt about it: Led by Frederick Zimmerman and Dr. Dimitri Christakis, both at the University of Washington, the research team found that with every hour per day spent watching baby DVDs and videos, infants learned six to eight fewer new vocabulary words than babies who never watched the videos. These products had the strongest detrimental effect on babies 8 to 16 months old, the age at which language skills are starting to form. `The more videos they watched, the fewer words they knew,` says Christakis. `These babies scored about 10% lower on language skills than infants who had not watched these videos.`

None of thee above! We had it play for my son but he never got into it. Now that he is 2 he does like the little einsteins. We never had a problem occupying him though. He could usually occupy himself and now that he is older he still occupies himself alot. It`s great haha

  1. Thanks to my twin`s ability to trek down here, my records are straightened out! I will be having my first appointment on February 29th. I will be 10 weeks-ish. Around here that is about when they want to see you. When did you get your first appointment?
  2. What do you think is better (or worse) for kids? TV or video games?
  3. I`m interesed in getting an innotab for my kids. Are the extra downloads pricey? How is the product as a whole?
  4. Thought they were fixing the problem with the profiles? Mine is now starting to disappear and most of my friends profiles are gone. Is it getting fixed or what because its more than a joke at the moment. Maybe its the ads causing the problems because its the only thing that seems to stay when the profiles disappear.
  5. If you had a `favourable` cervix (started to dilate and soft) did a membrane sweep work for you?
  6. Should I buy my sister a Belly Bandit for her shower? She said that is what she wanted when I asked. I just have a hard time spending that much money on some thing she might niot like. Especially because it was me who put the dumb :) idea in her head!! I bought and used one for three out of my four and loved it...but is it for everyone? Or should I throw down the money to something more practical?
  7. Are your children exposed to two hours or less of TV per day? (This includes when your shows are on and they are awake and around at the same time in the same room)

  8. Just finished making a birthday cake for the first time from our baby girl for her daddys bday tomorrow :o)
  9. Extension of last Valentine question..I should clarify that we are having V-day dinner tomorrow alone but still just the fact that he bought our gifts at the same time at the same place bugs the s-it out of me. He knows I like plants and I`m pretty sure he went to a nice nursey and got me one but the fact is he told me he got his mom a small little plant. OMG I fee like I total b-tch but I feel like telling him I know what he probably got me and I do not want anything that you are giving your mom!! But then he wopuld know I snooped and saw where he went on our checking account.
  10. O.k I know this is a off the wall question..Is it weird and selfish of me to be annoyed that my husband has is giving his mom a Vanetine gift and card tonight when she comes over and wants to give me mine too today? I know I`m probably being sensitive and I feel bad that I made the comment `if you give me the same thing as your mom I`m gonna cry`. He said I should`nt ruin the surprise and I told him I was sorry but I just wanted our Valentines seperate because everything includes his family and it`s a day for lovers. Am I....
