karenbg (1063.8 days ago) Find a new doctor. If a baby is coughing like that and it`s from reflux, it means they are aspirating (things are going into their lungs). Or there could be a structural issue where it isn`t going where it should in the first place. You can ask for something called a modified barium swallow (called a dysphasiagram or esophagiogram in some places) where they mix a small amount of barium in with the milk or formula then place them behind an x-ray to trace which `pipe` it is going down.
gr8scottswife (1063.9 days ago) My baby coughed a lot from birth, but she did not have a lot of reflux. I thought Ada had a cold. My pediatrician said that coughing is normal, that it is their way of clearing their noses because they don`t know how to do it yet. Every now and then she still coughs, but for the most part, it`s gone. Ada is 5 1/2 months.
nmck (1064 days ago) Not all babies need medicine for reflux. Reflux is simply a weak muscle to keep the stomach closed which is really common and in most babies spit up peaks around 4 months, and greatly decreases around 6 months when that muscle starts firming up. Meds will only treat ACID reflux which is painful to babies and has different symptoms than just spitting/coughing. Look up some of the symptoms and if you think it is acid, ask the doctor if he will prescribe something. If you start to think you dislike the doctor, get a second opinion!! Whatever you do, good luck!
arkansastechmommy (1064.2 days ago) My son had a cough from birth also, so I took him to the Dr. last week, and he had fluid behind his ears from birth. They gave him a 3-day antibiotic, and it cleared right up :)
