jekajoy (1025.2 days ago) Are you formula feeding or giving pumped breast milk? A baby should be getting somewhere between 21-24 oz in a 24 hour period at this point (http://www.babyzone.com/baby/nutrition-chart.pdf) Not every baby is going to eat 4 oz at 1 month old each feeding. Do you feed the baby by the watching the time or by his hunger cues? (Sorry so many questions)
Poppy~Ella~Rae (1025.4 days ago) dont burp him every ounce as this makes him feel full so he wont want as much i got told to do it half way through or leave her drinking until she wriggles then that means shes got wind, ith him only drinking two ounces i would let him try and drink the full lot first as its only a small amount. at month old my daughter was on 4 to 5 ounces.

I can only go by my experience but my son is one month old today and is eating between 3 and 4 oz and has already gained 1lbs 6 oz. Maybe its just a case of each child is different, but I believe a second opinion is warrented here.
By looking at your profile your son is eight minutes older than my son...I see he was a preemie..I would still get a second opinion..just to make sure his sucking reflex is mature. Ialso give Ian mylocon drops to help break up gas bubbles before he eats so he dosn`t need to burp up as much.
bethk (1025.4 days ago) I had to swap to the medium flow teat(3+mnths one) within the first few days as the slow one was takin soo long she lost interest! The Midwife advised me to do it and it made baby drink 3oz every 2hrs then and she was happier
RobinG (1025.4 days ago) I wouldnt burp him unless he drinks more, sometimes burping can cause spit up esp is there is no bubble. I`d wait til he is done drinking then gently burp and rub his back. If no bubble then stop trying to get a burp. I would also look at the nipple stage, he may not be drinking enough because the nipple is to small. My son was on dr browns stage 2 at 2 weeks because the flow was to slow. I would also encourage a pacifier, my first son had trouble sucking and turned out he had trouble with his tongue and the paci helped him to learn to suck. I would def get a 2nd opinion as he should be at least his birth weight by 2 weeks typically and if he is a month and still less I`d be concerned. ((((big hugs))))
