LKLmama (1512.4 days ago) When you say off the bottle do you mean formula also or just the bottle?
pc (1512.4 days ago) There are sippy cups that have nipple like tops. You could transition to one of those so that he is still familiar with the nipple yet is getting use to the new cup itself. Once he has that down, then switch over to a real sippy cup with a harder spout.
nmck (1512.5 days ago) She is your kid! Don`t let the doctor make you do anything. I will have my son off the bottle by 2. I am not in a hurry right now to get him off. But I do give him a sippy cup to play with at meals, etc to get him used to it.
sleepymomma (1512.5 days ago) Daisy still occasionally gets a bottle when she is sick. When she turned 1, the only time she got a bottle was when she was going to bed or taking a nap. If it really concerns you that she is still taking a bottle, just take it away. When they get thirsty enough, they will drink. But 1 year old seems a little young to be worried about it.
EmmaReed84 (1512.6 days ago) All my son ever drinks is water and milk, he hates juice always has. He has always had water in a sippy cup, then went to a proper cup. The only bottles he had were first thing in the morning, he would sit on the sofa with this blanket and bottle and watch telly, and last thing at night he would go to bed with it and drink it while having a bed time story. We did this up till he was about 3 I personally don`t see a problem, it isnt hurting anyone. One day a few weeks ago he just came up to me and said, mum can I have hot milk in a cup please, we have never looked back since. He decided he didn`t want a bottle so we went with it. Sometimes he will ask, but we tell him he doesn`t have any bottles now, and he just laughs and says `Oh yeah I forgot, how sill` lol cracks me up.....Do what YOU as the mother feel is right x
Lou-Li-Ro (1512.7 days ago) Why does he want you to take her off the bottles? They are such a source of comfort for babies, I don`t see why you shou1d. My babies are now one, and they have 2 bott1es a day. I`m just going to p1ay it by ear...
missyv28 (pink) (1512.8 days ago) We weaned and by 18 months he only had bottles to go to bed. By 2 he had no bottles. I felt bad for just taking them away especially when he wasn`t ready.
ADDISYNS~MUM (1512.9 days ago) i just read about this in the parenting magazine! they say that the last bottle feedings to go should be the early morning and then the night time feeding... they say also to but boring things in the bottles... like i read in an earlier comment but water in the bottle... if you dont give water then but milk in the bottle and everything else in the sippy cups... so that way it may be appealing (sp) to them... also it said that maybe you could try to drink from a sippy cup around your LO to show that you can do it to and then they may want to follow you and do the same... just some things i just read... hope this helps
JMendez (1512.9 days ago) I got my daughter off a bottle at 16 months. That was when she was ready to transition completely off bottles and switch to sippy`s. The only thing I really did was make a big deal out of how great her sippy was and how cool it was she was drinking out of it.
LKLmama (1512.9 days ago) I dont know much about formula feeding but why do they recommend breastfeeding til atleast age 2 but cutting off formula at 1?
RobinG (1512.9 days ago) One thing I`ve learned is docs arent always right, you need to do what you feel is best. I know MANY who had a baby still on it at 12 months and even 1.5 years old. I personally feel by 18 months is best when your child isnt ready. Every child is different and you dont have to follow docs advice always since every doc is differnt and docs arent always right :)
lizzy831 (1512.9 days ago) your her mom you know when the time is right. I would try just at naps and bedtime and then wean her off one of them. my oldest was two. one day we was washing dishes together and I told her they was nasty and to go throw them away and she did. then at bedtime she asked for it and I said remember you threw them away because they was gross. we didn`t have another word about them. good luck.
Bvartanian88 (1513 days ago) OH and she had us all off bottles by 9 months too. Formula in a bottle obviously, but everything else went in a cup! After we were off formula we were pros with cups!
Bvartanian88 (1513 days ago) My mom said she weaned all of us off bottles pretty easily. Only put water in the bottles... If we wanted some milk or juice, we had to use the cups. Cups that dont have the leak proof thing are what she used because with the leak proof valve in place you still have to suck on it like a bottle. Anyways, she never gave in when it came to the water in bottles & good stuff in cups thing and it worked great. I`m sure this is what I`ll try when the time comes. Good luck!
busymommyof3 (1513 days ago) I think thats kind of young . I did did around 18 months. Thats a perfect age I think. Dont stress to much. If all she wants is the bottle and is not eating then there is an issue. My middle child was like this. She was around 18 months and I threw them all out and she did not really eat for 2 days and after that she was fine. Like I said if shes eating then I wouldnt rush it!!! =)
bellajenna (1513 days ago) my little girl was 10 months and my son was 1 yr exactly it was his b day and I took ALL their bottles and through them in the trash. I had 0 issues.
