jenakers (1015.9 days ago) Not a toddler. There are just to many wacky things that can happen. I sat my baby down in our fenced yard to clean out the car. He couldn`t even crawl, just sit up. He was 5 feet from me. I turned around and he had a live bumble bee in his mouth. I FREAKED. Turned out to be a carpenter bee with no stinger...THANK GAWD! I just couldn`t believe the dumb luck. I`m not a fretful person but, that taught me Murphy`s law.
Bvartanian88 (1016 days ago) Leaving a kid outside alone with the family dog was a ridiculous choice. No one should ever let their baby be alone with a dog of any kind. They are animals first and foremost... this is how all the family dog attacks happen. No matter how gentle your dog is or how much you trust it, it`s always just a DOG and anything can happen. As a pit bull owner it gets aggravating seeing parents do this... Many gentle family dogs attack children every year. You should always take precautions, no matter the breed.
Food for thought, did you know that LABS have a higher bite rate than pit bulls?
Besides dogs, I wouldn`t leave my toddler in the FRONT yard unattended EVER. Back yard is a little more acceptable as long as it is fenced and the child can not get out. But of course I wouldn`t leave them unattended for very long! As long as they are in eyesight and you can hear them if they need you. But our backyard backs up to an alley and some apartments, so I personally wouldn`t leave my kid outside alone!
~amy~ (1016 days ago) Since I live in the city I will be outside with him ALL THE TIME. Once I move out to the country where the property is completly fenced in and the play area is fenced in (and he`s old enough!) I`ll settle for watching out the window.
Bek 30 (1016 days ago) I live on a huge farm, with not many ppl around at all. We have built a fence around the house ( had to after my daughter learnt how to unlock doors and escape). She is 18mths old and I allow her to toddle outside, not that I have a choice, but I make sure I poke my head every couple of mins, but she never really ventures off of the verandah. My son is 9 and allow him outside all the time, but he never ventures off far from the house anyway. But Katy loves to just sit outside with the puppy and plays tug a war.
ibaheir2dathrone (1016.1 days ago) No way! There are way to many sickos in this world. It only takes one second for someone to snatch them. Besides a toddler?? Come on, what kind of self defence can a 1-3 yo do? (besides scream)????? I live down the road from where a baby was (baby Abby) was taken from her mother at knife point. I live in the same school distric (my kids go to his schools) that little Ben Ownby was aducted my mom lived in the same apt. building where they found Shawn Hornbeck and Ben at. (She didn`t live there when they found him, but it makes you wonder how many times we saw him??) So there is NOOOO way I would leave my baby alone outside. My 11 and 8 yo don`t play outside unless me or hubby is there. Call me paranoid if you want. I consider it keeping my babies alive!
california-mom (1016.5 days ago) I have a 6 year old and a 3.5 year old (and a 13 week old but she doesnt pertain to thsi poll) and they are allowed to play only in our backyard. Its huge but has a huge tall brick `fence` around the entire thing. The only way out is through one door thats solid and can only be opened at the very top. I put the fear of God into my kids about leaving.
missyv28 (pink) (1016.5 days ago) I only let my son out in our fenced in backyard by himself for minutes at a time. I`m too paranoid to leave him outside for a long period of time and I will not leave him alone at all with a pet no matter how docile the pet. Not until at least 5. The only time he stays outside by himself is if I need to run to get something in the house.
