JMendez`s poll Show results | Hide results

Other-poll poll What do you think of parents who allow their toddlers to play outside when they are not physically out there with them?
(Other poll by JMendez, 1016 days ago)
Ridiculous. Don't you watch the news? It only takes a second for a kid to get kidnapped.
If the yard is fenced in and it's a nice neighborhood there's no big deal.
As long as the parent is watching out of a window/door constantly it's okay
If the family dog or an older sibling is outside it's no biggy
I'm too worried about stray dogs/animals, bee's, hornets, snakes, scorpions, etc (depending where you live)
I'll leave my opinion in a comment

Not a toddler. There are just to many wacky things that can happen. I sat my baby down in our fenced yard to clean out the car. He couldn`t even crawl, just sit up. He was 5 feet from me. I turned around and he had a live bumble bee in his mouth. I FREAKED. Turned out to be a carpenter bee with no stinger...THANK GAWD! I just couldn`t believe the dumb luck. I`m not a fretful person but, that taught me Murphy`s law.

Leaving a kid outside alone with the family dog was a ridiculous choice. No one should ever let their baby be alone with a dog of any kind. They are animals first and foremost... this is how all the family dog attacks happen. No matter how gentle your dog is or how much you trust it, it`s always just a DOG and anything can happen. As a pit bull owner it gets aggravating seeing parents do this... Many gentle family dogs attack children every year. You should always take precautions, no matter the breed.

Food for thought, did you know that LABS have a higher bite rate than pit bulls?

Besides dogs, I wouldn`t leave my toddler in the FRONT yard unattended EVER. Back yard is a little more acceptable as long as it is fenced and the child can not get out. But of course I wouldn`t leave them unattended for very long! As long as they are in eyesight and you can hear them if they need you. But our backyard backs up to an alley and some apartments, so I personally wouldn`t leave my kid outside alone!

Since I live in the city I will be outside with him ALL THE TIME. Once I move out to the country where the property is completly fenced in and the play area is fenced in (and he`s old enough!) I`ll settle for watching out the window.

I live on a huge farm, with not many ppl around at all. We have built a fence around the house ( had to after my daughter learnt how to unlock doors and escape). She is 18mths old and I allow her to toddle outside, not that I have a choice, but I make sure I poke my head every couple of mins, but she never really ventures off of the verandah. My son is 9 and allow him outside all the time, but he never ventures off far from the house anyway. But Katy loves to just sit outside with the puppy and plays tug a war.

No way! There are way to many sickos in this world. It only takes one second for someone to snatch them. Besides a toddler?? Come on, what kind of self defence can a 1-3 yo do? (besides scream)????? I live down the road from where a baby was (baby Abby) was taken from her mother at knife point. I live in the same school distric (my kids go to his schools) that little Ben Ownby was aducted my mom lived in the same apt. building where they found Shawn Hornbeck and Ben at. (She didn`t live there when they found him, but it makes you wonder how many times we saw him??) So there is NOOOO way I would leave my baby alone outside. My 11 and 8 yo don`t play outside unless me or hubby is there. Call me paranoid if you want. I consider it keeping my babies alive!

I have a 6 year old and a 3.5 year old (and a 13 week old but she doesnt pertain to thsi poll) and they are allowed to play only in our backyard. Its huge but has a huge tall brick `fence` around the entire thing. The only way out is through one door thats solid and can only be opened at the very top. I put the fear of God into my kids about leaving.

I only let my son out in our fenced in backyard by himself for minutes at a time. I`m too paranoid to leave him outside for a long period of time and I will not leave him alone at all with a pet no matter how docile the pet. Not until at least 5. The only time he stays outside by himself is if I need to run to get something in the house.

  1. ANGRY!!!! My jenakers account is missing my ENTIRE journal from my high risk pregnancy and my letthisonestick account for my 7 month old is completely gone along with my journal. I AM SICK OVER IT!
  2. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  3. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  4. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  5. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  6. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  7. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  8. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  9. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  10. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
