aprilraine (1010.2 days ago) jakentess- have the government step in when a name is hard to pronounce?? that seems a bit much, even common names get mispronounced. EditDelete
jakentess (1010.3 days ago) i don`t mean to offend anyone but, i was looking at resumes today and was going to call a person named `quashawnda` as i was attemtping to pronounce it on the phone the lady was highly offended beucase i slaughtered it. Well sorry that your parents named you something jacked up, after the awkward convo i was telling the recruiter about this lady name and he said bless you, as if i had sneezed. LOL anywho thats how i feel about out of the ordinary names and i do think the gov`t needs to step in when there awful to try and pronounce. Q is cute, maybe they could go with Quintin and call him/her Q for a nickname. EditDelete
aprilraine (1010.5 days ago) and no, my parents aren`t hippies or uneducated. :) EditDelete
aprilraine (1010.5 days ago) My 12 year old sisters name is Dancing Cloud. She loves her name, everyone calls her Dancy and it suits her. She has never been teased because of it, and everyone in my family has `odd` names. My dads name is Beaver. I think it`s ridiculous that the government would have say in naming your child. I would personally hate to be named Ashley or Amber or Jessica, it wouldn`t be `me`. (no offense to anyone with those names) Let people name their children what they like. EditDelete
gr8scottswife (1010.5 days ago) too much government interference! Democracy, rights of people all the way! If the child doesn`t like it, s/he can change it when s/he is older or choose to be called something else in school like a nickname. Even if that child`s name is shithead, the government does NOT have the right to interfere. He can learn to laugh about it and use it as a stepping stone instead of a stumbling block. People call their kids dumbass and ladybug and pixie and littlebit and all sorts of names though legally their names may be Charles, Madison, or Zulu. Even if a couple names their child Talulah from Hawaii whatever, I seriously doubt their` going to say the whole thing every time they call their child`s name. They`ll probably go with, `I love you, Talulah,` or `Talulah, come here.` I`ve read some pretty ridiculous names on this site, but no one is stopping these mothers from naming their children these names. Live and let live. EditDelete
jacobb-n-jordans-mommy (1010.5 days ago) they didnt get their kids taken away Walmart just wouldnt make their birthday cakes, these kids are 3-4 years old and live in the US. EditDelete
jacobb-n-jordans-mommy (1010.5 days ago) Oh okay so someone can name their child Hitler and get away with it or Arian Nation but not Q? That doesnt make any sense. EditDelete
arkansastechmommy (1010.5 days ago) I think it depends. `Q` and `Avalanche` aren`t offensive in any way. I do not like them personally, but I don`t think they should have been stopped, if that`s what they wanted to name their child. EditDelete
littlepixie (1010.5 days ago) Exactly, they should stop offensive names and ones that are just plain weird, like the Tallula Does the Hula...` thats just cruel to burden a child with that. But nature type names `Apple`, `Avalanche` etc should be allowed without question, Do we frown upon people calling their baby girl Lily or Rose, or their son Ash?? And we shorten names like Joshua or Jason to just `J` so why not allow someone to call their child a single letter name? My mum was in school with a girl called Knotleaf.... my mum was born in 1956, so we cant even assume the girls parents were hippies!! lol. Also, in school with a brother and sister Miles Tit and Ophelia Tit.... not good!! My school days, we had a Michael Jackson, not so bad but really at the mid 80s when i was born you would have thought they would have choose something else! lol. x EditDelete
amber325 (1010.6 days ago) I say YAY! If only people in the states would be stoped from making up names! Apple coco lyric king ....Those are not names ( sorry If I offend anyone) EditDelete
jenakers (1010.6 days ago) For the people that think you can name a child whatever you want, I want you to consider the couple that was stopped. They wanted to name their daughter `Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii` That was the first name only! What if I wanted to name my child Shithead, Toe Fungus, Barf, Bastard or F@ckface? Should the government refuse to put that on the birth certificate? Lets face it `Avalanche` and `Q` aren`t that bad but, it`s a BIG GREY AREA. If the government wants to stop me from naming my child `Shithead Akers`, I would think it was entirely appropriate. Also, what one person thinks is offensive may not be offensive to the next. Would it be offensive to name your child "GOD"? Is it offensive to name your child "Jesus or Neveah"? EditDelete
armymom (1010.6 days ago) I think it`s great... people name their kids some F-ed up names sometimes and I feel so sorry for the kids. EditDelete
Juniper (1010.6 days ago) It`s not the government`s business what people call their kids. EditDelete
kylaleigh (1010.6 days ago) that`s the government over stepping their boundaries like usual. EditDelete
googie32 (1010.6 days ago) Just another example of the Government trying to control ppl`s lives....who gives a crap what you name your child...I agree that if it is a really offensive name then perhaps, but even then it`s not a legal issue that the Government has a say in...Avalanche isn`t that odd...I don`t personally like it but who cares..my girlfriend just had a baby and she named her Storm! Not my fav. but it`s her choice...I think the Government needs to worry about more important things...like cutting back our taxes! EditDelete
Lou-Li-Ro (1010.6 days ago) I think it`s ridicu1ous. The `government` have no right to dictate what peop1e name their chi1dren. Q is coo1! EditDelete
littlepixie (1010.6 days ago) I feel that this is a little silly! Its YOUR child, you should be allowed to call it what ever you wish. I only think they (the gov) should intervene if the name would be rude or offensive in any way. Why cant they have Avalanche or Q..... Gwynneth Paltrow was allowed Apple!!!! look at the crazy things celebrities name their children... no one stopped them! EditDelete
