kiara (1003.4 days ago) My daughter had one at about 7 months. My first clue that something was wrong was her pee diapers smelled terrible. I called the doctor, and they said they doubted it was an infection because typically an infection causes the baby to be very sick, losing weight, won`t eat, cranky all the time, high fever, etc. My daughter was acting completely normal, eating normally, happy, etc. I persisted, and then they finally agreed to test her. They have to do catheters on babies to test. Sure enough, she did have an infection! They gave her an antibiotic. About a week after she finished the antibiotic, her pee started smelling bad again. They gave her another round of antibiotics. I had to take her into the hospital for testing to see if she had bladder reflux, which she did. They said on a scale of 1-5, she was a 2. They said 1`s and 2`s usually outgrew the reflux by age 5, 4`s and 5`s needed surgery to correct it. So now she`s been taking a low dose antibiotic every day (for the past year) to prevent future infections. In October I`m supposed to bring her back for more testing to see if she`s outgrown it yet. Hopefully this story makes sense to you, if not feel free to message me with any questions!
jamie (1003.5 days ago) My daughters diaper in the morning just smelled REALLY wierd, almost like poop........
.punky. (1003.6 days ago) It is treated with antibiotics. The doc said babies can get it from sitting in soapy bath water, having a wet diaper on for too long, poo getting up the tract from a dirty diaper etc. I think my dd may have gotten it from a dirty diaper because almost every time she poos it is all up the front of her and barely on her butt at all...
.punky. (1003.6 days ago) Hi, when my dd had a UTI her only symptom was a fever (quite high..103) We took her to the ER and the doc said often when baby girls have a high fever with no other symptoms it is a UTI. The took a urine sample and sure enough it was. She was about 10 or 11 months at the time.
