RobinG (1000.9 days ago) Also mild is harder to DX ~ so be persistant if you feel there is a concern. The doc can DX but since they only see the child for a bit it is the info you give that will aid in the most accurate DX. Buy the book my out of sync child, it is very good. Most ASD kids have a processing disorder. If you go onto youtube there are also many videos from parents ~ I like to go and search ASD or mild autism or pdd-nos. I helps me in seeing other kids and understanding my own son. No two ASD kids are the same so if someone says that they dont see it or he/she isnt like rainman or what they expect from them disregard it. When you are high functioning or mild it is harder to see and not everyone will see it. (())
dollhouse (1000.9 days ago) your pediatrician should be able to get you that information for your area. I hope everything turns out well!
RobinG (1000.9 days ago) My son is ASD ~ he is mild on the spectrum. A developmental ped is the best to dx it. Your ped would refer you to one OR you call Early Intervention at the county office. Its a free service through the county that is paid for by the taxes you pay. They will come and do an eval and give you guidance on how to dx. My son started with EI after my Ped referred me to them and therapy and we set up an apmnt with the Dev Ped. Which took a couple months. High Functioning isnt a actuall dx. It is ASD meaning Autism Spectrum Disorder. Some of the recognized levels are PDD-NOS, Mild, Mild-moderate, Moderate, Classic(rainman). Aspergers is often referred to as high functioning. The difference between high func and mild autism is Asp doesnt have a language delay usually. My son is very mild but will never be AS because he also has a language delay. There is also Atypical autism which is Pervasive Development Disorder. This is the test my sons dx was determined by.
This is an amazing site I found that is very helpful.

Hope this helps. If you have any video of your child that helps too. The symptoms will vary moment to moment. Hunter can look fine one sec and not so fine another.((hugs))
