I agree with secondandexcited it`s both like any relationship (except your children) you have to work at it but love can form from the beginning. I am a big believer in love at first sight (If you meet me you wouldn`t think so and if you had of ask me about it before I meet my husband I would have said no doesn`t exist) I think love is the driving force that makes you want to work at your relationship to hold it together. However I am with Katiebickell that if my husband was to hurt me or my children (as much as it would hurt) I would have to leave him.

I think it`s both. In the beginnign you either love somebody or you don`t. then after you have established a serious connection you have to work at staying in love with someone...like marriage

Its effortless. I think if you really love someone (your so) it takes nothing. You wont even notice if youre giving and taking, its so natural.
