AngieP (996.5 days ago) I have a friend that only shows sign language videos to her son and doesn`t work with him otherwise. He is the same age as my son and says only a few words. My son pretty much says anything. I`m sure it just depends on the child.
jenakers (996.7 days ago) Totally the opposite. My son has advanced language skills (behind physically). I think he craved comunication. The signing made him crave it more. I taught him 5 signs and didn`t need them after that. It is funny sometimes whe he gets ignored for another cookie he will shout more cookie and do BOTH the signs!
military~mommy (996.7 days ago) Thank you for your responses. My daughter is 12 months and she only says 7 words; mama, dada, baba, hi, ok, no, and mine! But she signs milk, drink, eat, more, stop, all done, yes and no. So I was just curious...
Holly28 (996.7 days ago) Not at all. In fact my daughter prefers to speak over signing. Once she had the word she stopped using the sign.
terise (996.8 days ago) I tried using baby sign language with my first daughter, She started speaking so young that it was a waste of time for me as she just spoke instead of signed, she had a fairly wide vocabulary by 12 months (around 40-50 words) I didnt try it with my next 2 children but maybe I should have my son didnt really say much until 2. I guess for me it didnt slow down speech at all.
