Instead of a glider or rocking chair, my husband and I bought a rocking recliner...big, puffy, and comfortable. We are so glad we did. It is so comfortable for night feedings, and when he was an infant, I would sometimes co-sleep with him in that recliner. I slept in the recliner after my c-section! And, when you put the feet up at night, it does not rock...so no extra stimulation when you want the baby to go back to sleep.

I only have 2 pieces in the nursery. Obviously a crib but I also have a changing table dresser combo. Its great! All I had to do is buy a changing pad and it screws into the back of the dresser. So when I no longer need it the chaning table, it just functions as a dresser.

You need to see what you prefer most, what I preferred and felt was absolutely necessary differed from others. I have a two story house and the changing table is MOST important. I loved it with my first two and now that I have a 3rd we have one for each floor. And it is used ALL day. Hunter is 19 months and it is still used, I never use the floor. And it much easier to not have to get onto floor or sit on bed. And I find kids squirm and try to wiggle away more when not on a table. Plus there are those occassional accidents and much easier to clean a changing table cover then wash yoru furniture down. Pee can still leak through a towel if on your bed. Why add more work then you need? Crib with draw underneath too was a wonderful extra :)

I have to agree with missyv28. My daughter `shares` a room with my four year old son, but she is never in there. I mostly use her changing table to store diapers and the bottom shelf has toys. Her crib holds stuffed animals and I hope by her 1st b-day she will sleep in there. My son used it up to his 2nd b-day. My son was the same. We ended up cosleeping with both of them. My daughter sleeps half the night in her pack in play in our room and the rest in our bed. So I guess none of her furniture is absolutely necessary. I like the glider because I use it to read bed time stories to my son, but again I think of it as more of a luxury, not a necessity. We got the crib, changing table and dresser as a set from Walmart, we didn`t have a lot of money when we had our son. I tried looking for it online, but I can`t find it right now.

CHANGING TABLE!! It made things sooo much easier. When we moved to a 2 story house we bought a second one for downstairs... I watch my neice too, so at one point we had 3 girls in diapers, now only 2. I love the changing table!

We used none of our nursery stuff except drawers. We co slept and by the time we transitioned him to the crib he was climbing out of it so he went straight to a toddler bed. We changed him on our bed on the floor on the couch. Pretty much everywhere but the changing table. The only thing I wish we had was a glider or a rocker but I have one this time. We did use his swing and bouncer if you consider that nursery stuff.

A crib of course.. I have a dresser I bought off craigslist that comes up to my waist and I use it as a changing table. But now that my son has perfected the art of rolling I change him on the ground. I use my glider and ottoman at night when I feed him his bottle and put him to bed.

None are ABSOLUTELY necessary but I LOVE my changing table.
