I believe in spanking, NOT beating your child. And not until they are old enough to understand what they are being punished for. Also, if it leaves a bruise, you obviously were not spanking, but straight up hitting. A spank is a smack on the bottom that tends to scare a child more than hurt them. And not all children require a form of physical punishment, but some children need to be spanked as other forms of punishment are ineffective for their personalities. To never punish a child is to raise a brat.

I know it`s controversial but i`m not totally against it. I was when i was little and I don`t feel traumatized. A little smack when the child is not listening to reason I think is ok. It`s more the action that works rather than actually inflicting any real pain. But I think strong verbal telling off and explaining should be used first, then being asked to sit in a corner or go to their room.. then if all is failing a smack :)

i have 4 kids that have never been spanked. ages 15, 13, 11, 9...they r incredibly behaved and listen to me out of respect, not fear of punishment.

As a child of a spanker, I`m against spanking, but I think it`s ok to slap a wrist or swat at a behind. Just don`t be angry as you`re punishing the child.

All my kids are/will be spanked after warnings and a time out.

I am a firm believer in spankings....I have a 19 yr old, 13 yr old and now a 10 month old...I will tell you each child is different...my 19 yr old is a boy and I tell you he had to be spanked as a child...my 13 yr old is a girl and you look at her with a disciplined eye and she would straighten up..no need to spank her...now my 10 month old...we will tell him no and if he continues we will try to divert his attention to something else...if that doesn`t work we will tap his hand with a firmer no....but I believe `spare the rod, spoil the child` I would rather spank my kids then resent them for their behavor...I may not be the best parent BUT everyone that meets my kids never fail to say `what well behaved and polite kids we have` another thing is I can`t stand to hear a child say `yea or no` or `what` it is yes ma`am no ma`am and yes sir no sir in this house hold!!!

My 5 year old daughter has never been spanked and is very well behaved. We`re incredibly strict, and we`ve left stores, parks, etc after one warning on bad behavior, which sucks when she calls your bluff lol, but it`s usually pretty effective... but different strokes for different folks, as long as you`re not beating your kids, do what`s right for you.

I plan on using other forms of discipline before spanking. I do think some kids need to be spanked now but only because their parents didn`t displine them enough when they were younger. I have nothing against spanking, only hope that it never results to that. I too was spanked as a child and learned early on how to behave and be respectful. I can`t stand some kids these days either!

I`m not going to go buck wild on their ass in the middle of the grocery store...haha (mental childhood memory coming back. lol.) but I will dicipline my child in an effective manner so-to-speak. I was spanked. It was good for me. I deserved it. And I`m a good girl now. hehe!

I am for spanking WHEN it is appropriate ~ BUT amber325 keep in mind if you are seeing kids misbehaving it doesnt mean the mom will not spank them it may be she isnt going to do it in public and it also doesnt mean this child is just a bad kid. Some kids are bad and it is just bad behavior but some, like my son, have Autism. I cant tell you how horrible it is when he flips out and I am at the store. Never assume a bad child is in deed just a bad kid without a disability. Not all disabilites are obvious. Some kids who are bipolar or severe ADHD also have these meltdowns and spanking will not solve the issue. And it most certainly doesnt mean the parent doesnt have skills or is disciplined or that the kids is a bad kid. And when I am in a position that I feel a spanking is warranted I will not do it in public and risk those who dont believe in it calling the cops on me. And spanking is at times a parenting skill def warranted.

I wasn`t spanked as a kid, and I am not a spanker to mine, but everyone definitely is unique in their decision to get their kid`s attention when they`re doing something wrong. You do what works for you, and you`re certainly not a bad parent for it. Personally I`d rather see someone give their kid a nice attention grabbing swat on the bottom than sit there and scream at them. Just my opinion though, everyone does their own thing and that`s great =)

cutelilmama (987.9 days ago)
lol I could personally careless if someone thought I dont have parenting skills because I believe in spanking, and OTHER ways to decipline..its not like im going to just spank because of EVERYTHING my child does wrong. Which i have never even spanked my son YET, but im sure one day he will start getting them, he is only a yr and half so obviously RIGHT NOW i use different ways to decipline... also ive personally read many ignorant comments from beeer on other polls... not to change the subject : )

3girls2008 (987.9 days ago)
Just because I give a swat on the behind after many attempts at my parents SKILLS does not mean I don`t have parenting SKILLS. I agree with the not doing it in anger part mentioned earlier but to say us who spank don`t have parenting SKILLS is wrong.

I personally was spanked as a child, not often and I`m not in any way `damaged` or scarred by it..however I don`t spank my kids...i have a 9 year old who has never been spanked except once and I never did it again because it made me feel sick and like i had done something wrong...I also have a 2 yr old who hasn`t and never will be spanked...my kids aren`t out of control or bad and I find they way we disclipline is working just great for us.

mommyofxyxyxx (987.9 days ago)
A big part of me thinks that violence is violence and no one should ever hit another person. Not even a parent with a horribly behaving child. SO I don`t do it. The one time I slapped my child`s mouth (he spit at me in anger), I really really regretted it. I think that the key is to not be angry when you do it????? Because then are we teaching them that it`s okay to hit out of anger? I don`t know. I was spanked as a kid and it worked on me.

3girls2008 (987.9 days ago)
i agree with cute... i cant believe how kids act now a days and my neice is one of them! they have never said no to her in her life (she`s 3) and when she is at a store if she doesn`t get something she wants she will throw herself on the floor screaming and my sister will hand her the object of her desire to get her to stop... drives me nuts!

cutelilmama (987.9 days ago)
i agree also : P thats why i posted this poll because I feel like these days too many younger parents are against it because of what all the `EXPERTS` say now. But this about our parents days, all the kids were so much more behaved than now, NOW its a nightmare out there, and I dont want my kids to end up anywhere near that! Do people not realize this?

courtenay (987.9 days ago)
i believe in spanking however i think there is a difference between a spanking and beating a child and do believe some people take `spanking` too far.

hannahe (987.9 days ago)
i agree with amber

amber325 (987.9 days ago)
all for it! I see so many poorly behaved kids running /screaming stores I wish someone would spank there butts and make them behave! I will spank my children I was an am better b/c of it.

  1. Thanks to my twin`s ability to trek down here, my records are straightened out! I will be having my first appointment on February 29th. I will be 10 weeks-ish. Around here that is about when they want to see you. When did you get your first appointment?

  3. I`m interesed in getting an innotab for my kids. Are the extra downloads pricey? How is the product as a whole?
  4. Thought they were fixing the problem with the profiles? Mine is now starting to disappear and most of my friends profiles are gone. Is it getting fixed or what because its more than a joke at the moment. Maybe its the ads causing the problems because its the only thing that seems to stay when the profiles disappear.
  5. If you had a `favourable` cervix (started to dilate and soft) did a membrane sweep work for you?
  6. Should I buy my sister a Belly Bandit for her shower? She said that is what she wanted when I asked. I just have a hard time spending that much money on some thing she might niot like. Especially because it was me who put the dumb :) idea in her head!! I bought and used one for three out of my four and loved it...but is it for everyone? Or should I throw down the money to something more practical?
  7. Are your children exposed to two hours or less of TV per day? (This includes when your shows are on and they are awake and around at the same time in the same room)

  8. Just finished making a birthday cake for the first time from our baby girl for her daddys bday tomorrow :o)
  9. Extension of last Valentine question..I should clarify that we are having V-day dinner tomorrow alone but still just the fact that he bought our gifts at the same time at the same place bugs the s-it out of me. He knows I like plants and I`m pretty sure he went to a nice nursey and got me one but the fact is he told me he got his mom a small little plant. OMG I fee like I total b-tch but I feel like telling him I know what he probably got me and I do not want anything that you are giving your mom!! But then he wopuld know I snooped and saw where he went on our checking account.
  10. O.k I know this is a off the wall question..Is it weird and selfish of me to be annoyed that my husband has is giving his mom a Vanetine gift and card tonight when she comes over and wants to give me mine too today? I know I`m probably being sensitive and I feel bad that I made the comment `if you give me the same thing as your mom I`m gonna cry`. He said I should`nt ruin the surprise and I told him I was sorry but I just wanted our Valentines seperate because everything includes his family and it`s a day for lovers. Am I....
