my sister`s nickname was Miss Piggy until she was about 10 or 11, no one thought anything of it... we even have a home video where she says `everyone calls me miss piggy, cause I am one!` it was funny and cute (even to her it seemed) until she became anorexic at age 16... she said it really effected how she thought about herself once she got older. She is 21 now and recovered, but I could never call my daughter or son anything like that.

Hmm.. it`s ok now, but I agree not to continue for too long as you never know how she may interpret it. But tehre is no problem doing now! I call my LO chubby chubs ;)

CAreful it might stick!!! I used to call my daughter `Chubby-Chunkers` but had to make sure I got out of the habit early!!!

We call our daughter stinky and stinker butt so much that its pretty much her name. I dont think there is anything wrong with it

My little guy is almost 5 weeks old and we call him fatty and oinker all the time. he`s gained over 3 lbs in this short time and eats constantly, so he`s earned it! :) now if he was 8 and chubby, we would probably avoid calling him piggy!

hahaha, it IS better than calling her ugly!! We make fun of JJ`s belly sometimes (he is 15 mo) and after a bottle his belly is literally bigger than his head!!! So we call him chubby too but rarely and TOTALLY in jest. I think if they are old enough to understand, I would never say it....not even in jest. That stuff can change a person or stick with them for a looooong time. I am sure you aren`t a horrible mommy...yo just have a good sense of humour!

One of my early memories as a child (I have no idea what age I was, but I`m thinking around 6 or 7) my mom and I were buying me new pants because I was outgrowing my old ones. She tried on a pair that was too tight and commented that I should go on a diet. I dont think she was serious, but that was the first time I felt like I was fat, and that really affected me growing up, I`ve constantly been self conscious about it. I know its different than a loving nickname, I just wanted to point out that in todays society anything that might make a kid feel overweight can affect them more than you may realize. I will never tell Sarah she needs to go on a diet, or anything that might make her feel bad. Rather (if she needs it) I`ll adjust her meals and snacks and encourage more outdoor activities.

JMO but at age one I think it is a little mean. I would just say stop before she knows what it means. I had a friend who had nicknames for her dd like that & when she was 3, YES 3 she said she would not wear certain clothes because they made her look fat!

busymommyof3 (987.4 days ago)
I think its fine until for now but as she starts to understand NO! You probably should not do it in front of people. they will think its mean!

amygirl22 (987.4 days ago)

I used to call my daughter cute nicknames like that when she was a little rollie pollie baby. I called her Chub Chubs, Chunky Monkey, and Squishy Butt. =) It`s your baby! You`re not going to do something to damage her =P

MummyLJ (987.4 days ago)
It`s ok now, but another reason you might want to stop before she`s older is kids repeat EVERYTHING and she`ll embarrass the crap out of you one day by saying it to someone else lol

sadielady (987.4 days ago)

daydays mom (987.4 days ago)
i dont think your horrible i just think its something that people will look @ it in a bad way...sometimes i get mad @ my lil girl when she bites me and i call her a lil turd but ya know it doesnt madder what we call our kids as long as its not something that will reflect on how they feel bout themselves when they get oldER!

We call our 4 month old squashy, chubbyness, squishy, fatty mcFat fat and all kinds of other adorable names. We even call those names to our 3 year old even though hes very slender but loves to eat lol! Our baby is kind of rolly polly and its absolutely the cutest thing EVER! Our other 2 were really little, tiny babies so were stoked to have a chubby one! Obviously Im not going to call her that when shes older but for now, its such a lovey nickname! ITs not like were saying, dang heffer youre chunky. Or something in a mean way...

happyforest (987.4 days ago)
*couldnt

happyforest (987.4 days ago)
i realize right now its cute, but if you keeep doing it when she is getting old enough to understand what words mean, then she will believe she IS fat if that is what you tell her she is. when i worked at a preschool that took ages infant to kindergarden we had to learn about this. we werent allowed to call kids any cute names that might influence them later. like we could say `your so silly` or `your suck a goober` bc eventually they will believe thats what they really are.

Hi there. My profile name is after my 8 year old girl whose nickname is Fatty:)..she`s been called this since day one and she loves it but only close friends and family can call her by that name(her rules). My profile photo shows both my girls and she is nowhere near fat but understands that it`s an affectionate name given when she was born. When she was a few months old a staff member at my school commented that her nickname was Fatty as a child and she hated it as the kids would tease her. As for my Fatty, her rules are you can`t call her Fatty without her explicit permission...so I guess it depends on how you use it. PS Fatty even has her own caps and tshirts printed with her NN on it:)

hannahe (987.4 days ago)
before you comment about how horrible i am, realize i dont do this to be mean its just cute cuz she is chubby and i love her to pieces!!! and i dont do this around heavy people and i dont plan on doing it when she is older or if she stays chubby...now feel free to comment at will :)

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
