Other-poll poll My 5 yr old son has a habit of waking before anyone else(or getting up in middle of night) and sneaking into kitchen and stealing food. usually junk food, which I limit the amount of junk food they are allowed to have. I dont limit his mealtime food, and believe me the boy can eat, but no matter what Ive tried I cant get him to stop stealing. If theres no junk food hell get regular food. He eats as much as he wants at each meal so I dont see how he could still be hungry. Ive tried talking to him, punishments, you name it. Im at a complete loss. I got up today to discover all the cookies I made for a bake sale are eaten. Im out of ideas

i also was going to suggest talking to your dr. i dont think it sounds normal for him to waking up in the middle of the night to `steal` food. and if he is really hungry or feels hungry, there may be a malfunction in the sensor that tells him when he is full.

We had to stop buying junk in my house because my step-daughter was doing this a few years ago. If we bought anything it would be gone in a matter of days. As she got older we gradually reintroduced it. It stinks! Good luck.

I`d suggest hiding the snacks in your room (closet) or maybe out in the garage if you have one. He can`t get what he can`t find, LOL!

Im fairly sure hes awake, he admits to taking the food when I ask, so he knows hes taking it. hes not overweight, actually perfect for his age

Is your son overweight? They make little alarms that you can fasten to the door. I would install it on his bedroom door and as soon as he opens it the alarm will go off. Then you will at least know if he is awake or asleep. I have a little sister who is a compulsive eater. She was adopted by my parents around age 10. Though she is fed plenty, she will steal any food that she can get her hands on. My parents ended up getting a special lock installed on a larger downstairs closet and keep all the food in there that does not need to be refrigerated. It has helped a lot, but she still does it sometimes. Good luck, I understand your frustration!

I would buy a lock for the refridgerator...I believe they make them and keep all junk food out of reach. Maybe he`s sleep walking? It`s not very uncommon in children. My bf does it. By the way we are neighbors, I live in St. Augustine!

hid the junk and leave him eat. set out a snack before you go to bed so he can eat. are you sure he is awake? he can be sleep walking an eating. my daughter does this. but when she gets food she replaces it with a toy? lol but she is asleep.

Tie him to the bed lol....failing that, leave him a little snack beside his bed. A glass of water and a couple of biscuits? Could be he`s suffering from low blood sugar.

ya like I said he eats, dinner is a minium of 3 servings, Ive never seen him eat less, and lunch is always at least 2 servings, same with breakfast. hes gonna eat me outta house and home soon enough. I know even if I move food to the top of my closet he waits till im in bathroom or in living room and drags his bathroom stool in there and gets it, I actually caught him on that one

you could `baby proof` the cabinet door. Buy those little things that you have to press down as you pull the door open.. and install it at the top of the cabinet so that it`s high out of his reach. It might inconvience the rest of the family cause you`ll probably have to use a step stool to use your pantry but it would probably work.

I have a gate at the end of our hallway to keep my son from leaving the back part of the house!!! It works but I am sure that a five year old would be able to escape so that may not work!!! Do you give him a snack before bed that might help. My mom had the same fight with my brother. Only his was trying eat every little crumb when mom was clearing the table. It was so bad that my mom had my aunt over and she called CPS because she thought my mom didn`t feed him enough.

kitchen has no door, and was thinking bout the fridge lock, but our`pantry` isjust a large kitchen cabinet, no door to lock there

armymom (983.6 days ago)
my sister had to put an alarm on her sons door for this same reason. It would chime and go off until someone turned it off manually. Something like this might help. Oh, and if you have a pantry with a door you could also replace the door knob with one that you lock with a key and I know they make a fridge lock.. just not sure where you`d look for those things. What a stinker! lol

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
