I use to be against it but unfortunatly I have the most lovable, sweetest, licky dog ever! I gave up on being anal about it. Alex is now 8 months so its not as big of a deal to me as when he was a newborn or a few months old. Now obviously if she is sitting there going to town and licking his face Ill put an end to it but if she is just walking by and sneaks a little lick I am not going to freak out over it. I am just thankful that my dog and Alex get along!

my parents have a dog and i keep him VERY far away from my dd. i just don`t like the idea of him licking her and his hair getting on her. I think if you have animals people are more comfortable with these thing.

it doesnt bother me if either of my doggies lick zoelie. if it happens on her hand, i just get a wipe and clean her. and this happens every day. my maltese thinks zoe is his baby, so when she cries, if he is even outside, he runs in to try and comfort her by licking her. why would i discourage this adorable loving behavior??...but i do see where u would be upset. its your baby, your rules with her. and all family shold respect that.

We have two dogs and they will occassionly lick one of the kids. While I know their mouths are not clean or germ free, pretty much nothing they will come into contact in public is either. That would mean I could never take them to a public pool, sit them in a shopping cart, play in the dirt (yikes...worms poop in there...lol), play in a sand box, play on the beach.

I would be upset if I specifically asked my in-laws to not do something and they purposely did...I think that is really the problem here...???

I wouldn`t mind a trusted dog that I know well giving ONE lick to my baby, but repetitive licking would bother me. Also, a child was walking her dog without a parent in my neighborhood the other day (PET PEEVE) and she let her dog roam up into my yard to check out the babies. The dog ran right into D`s face and I snatched him up REALLY fast. I don`t want ANY dog I don`t know in my baby`s face! How do I know they`re not going to bite him? Then I asked the girl politely, `Would you mind taking your dog out of my yard? I don`t want him to potty here.` because the girl had NOTHING with her to clean up her dog`s waste. She was like, `Oh, he won`t.` and stood there letting the dog bother the babies. I changed my approach to, `Honey, you need to get your dog out of my yard please.` in a firm tone. That got her to leave. I hated being mean, but that`s why kids should have a parent with them when walking a pet...

If we are out and about and Madison needs water usually someone give hers a bowl of water from one of their reg bowls.. then they put it in the dishwasher and its all clean.. I guess I feel differently about this because I have a dog and am not grossed out by any of this and we are very clean people!! I do how ever sanitize my daughters hands after we are in public of strangers come up to her and touch her..

There are 2 types of people. Those who let a dog do whatever and those that don`t. SherB I agree with how you feel and there are very clever ways to monitor your child and in-laws.

I have to agree with Rachel. Rowan has put so many gross things in her mouth. She even put a dead spider in her mouth once. Not to mention when they start crawling, floors are dirty no matter how well you clean them. A little dog slobber on the hands never hurt anyone lol. You would have to put your baby in a bubble to keep the germs away.

But that is what children to to themselves, not a grown up.

No offense Sherb But there are much worse things to be upset about and not letting someone ever babysit over a dog licking the baby.. Kids eat dirt they eat their own boogers, put their hands in their diapers and have poop on their hands... They even eat poop sometimes, so if you think about it like that then a dog licking your baby isnt all that horribly disgusting! im not bashing so dont think I am just giving my opinion!!!

*clutching pearls and gasping* That was nasty. Keep the Purell around and if they are offended then so be it. So were you and some of us on this board.

Our dog is very gentle with alexa.. I dont mind of she licks her forehead or her cheeks. She isnt allowed to lick her lips tho.. I figure its almost worse if Madison licks Alexa`s hands because then she puts her hands in her mouth if madison licks her cheeks or her forehead its harmless!

i have 2 dogs, no children yet... but i think its cute when my dog licks my friends children, my friend never seems offended that i don`t repremand them for licking. and the children seem to always giggle. i guess i`m not grossed out becuase i bite my nails everyday and we all know how digusting our nails can be and i`m healthy as can be and i also kiss and let my dogs lick my face.

My german shepherd always tried to lick my 4month old :) usually on the hands but sometimes he`ll sneak a cheek lick in there. Doesn`t bother me that much and she seems to be alright!

I don`t understand why a dogs mouth is compared to a humans. It is never compared to a moose, buffalo or any other animal. I don`t let any animal or human lick my child.

I don`t like any animal licking the facial area...that`s just gross. But if it were on the hand, arm, leg...etc, it would have to be the dog of someone I know and they know their dog well. Things still can happen though. I was bit on the mouth (probably my main reason for not liking them near my face!) by my grandpa`s dog when I was 11. I went to pet him, he was asleep, so it scared him, and he did what came natural.

I didn`t mind letting my dog lick Rowan, I wanted my dog to bond with her and accept her as part of the family and be protective over her. I feel like if I always told her to go away or to stay away from the baby she may not like her. If she was licking her mouth I would step in, but usally she licks her head or arm and moves on.

My parents have dogs & I do not like them licking her face or her hands which she sticks in her mouth. Other then that I try not to freak out too much, but really I don`t like it much in all honesty.

I heard recently that a dogs mouth has more germs than you can imagine ~ I didnt realize it was as dirty as it apparently is. I dont like it, never did, full of germs or germ free. I see my dog lick his body parts nice and clean and since I didnt witness him brush his teeth after I cant say that I am to keen on him licking my babies mouth ~ yucky!!! but thats just my opinion :) Some love it :) If the dog walked up and suddenly did it fast and walked away I wouldnt flip out but if he stayed and kept licking I`d stop it.

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
