My kids were all in strollers til about 4ish. I think it is best to have the 5 year old start walking and only have another one for day trips like the zoo or boardwalk vacation etc where the 5 year may need to do alot of walking, in that case a 2nd one for the 5 year old that your SO can push is great or even a wagon. My kids always needed to sit past 5 years when we had alot of walking but not in general shopping or shorter trips.

If it were me I wouldn`t spend the money on another stroller if you have a double stroller already. I guess the question is- how much longer do you think your 5 year old will want to stay sitting in a stroller? Maybe you could just buy one of the standing step additions with the wheel on it that can be added to the back of any stroller for when your 5 year old needs a break from walking.
