jpcm`s poll Show results | Hide results

Other-poll poll Does anyone ever wonder why soem polls get deleted and not others? Like, a poll on first time parents taking classes, first oen done was deleted, while there are still polls up about smoking and drunk pregnant moms being arrested? Seems moderators are leaving up polls that suit there opinions on parenting?!
(Other poll by jpcm, 966 days ago)
I wonder that ALL the time!!
Never thought about it!
Thinks site shoudl be a bit more selective in who moderators are, and their interaction with polls that they dont' agree with.

exactly robin. you did what you should have IMO. if someone doesnt `like` a poll, then they can leave a comment with THEIR opinion. that was all i wanted. to know if anyone else felt that way or not. and even though you didnt like it, you didnt delete it bc it wasnt against policy...thats how it should be. i was just trying to help people out. if she had already been `proven` fake, i wouldnt have needed to post that in the first place.

RobinG (964.9 days ago)
I made a comment about how the poll was inappropriate (what if she wasnt fake??) If someone thought you were fake when in fact you werent and posted it on a poll you`d be hurt by the accusation being made public until it was proven one way or another. If you had posted after it was proven than that is fine but to post prior to it being investigated I dont agree with. She was fake but one shouldnt ever post a poll on it, they should go to Laura to investigate ~ that being said, even though I felt the poll was wrong all together I didnt delete it because it was not against policy to be up.

happyforest (964.9 days ago)
someone, i guess no one knows who it is, IS deleteing polls just b/c they dont like them. bc i have seen a lot of polls that were not generally offensive, that a few people probly wouldnt `like`, and then they just dissappeared. this happened to a poll i put up about mommyvikki before everyone knew she was fake. i simply asked if anyone else thought it was fake besides me? that it might be a scam and ppl shouldnt be sending txts to a random person. a few people left rude comments saying `how could u even post a poll like that!` which was dumb b/c i said NOTHING offensive in my poll. before i knew it, it was gone. then they next day for some reason eveyone realized she was fake. this is just one example, im sure people have other of normal posts that ARENT RUDE OF OFFENSIVE being deleted.

jenakers (964.9 days ago)
The delete button is located under each poll. I have been confused as to which delete button goes to which poll. That led to an accidentally deleted poll. Not yours though this was quite a while back. It is possible it was an accident. A poll has to majorly step over the line for me to delete it.

RobinG (965 days ago)
Remember too ~ if you see a hurtful post deleted but see another remain for a while or not deleted it may also be in part to the fact that we are moms here first and just like you all come and go when we can, the site isnt moderated 24/7. We dont have times or hours of `coverage` to moderate the polls or site so things can be missed if a mod doesnt happen to come acrossed it. I personally dont read every poll or post so if there was a hurtful post on a poll that I didnt read I will not be aware of it. Mods dont mod every single thing, we choose ~ just like you, what we want and dont want to read :) We arent required to moderate anything specifically or in its entirety. JPCM ~ please by all means go to my page ~ I dont think you will see any controversial polls set up by me. And just cause one mod set up a poll that was hurtful doesnt mean we all do. I am a MOM first and a MOD 2nd. I`m am not perfect and have had my posts deleted too, we are not above anyone else. If you see one of our polls or posts up and it is hurtful. Have it deleted and report it to laura. just cause one mod did a bad poll or post doesnt mean we all do. I dont leave it cause the person is a mod (I dont even know who most are) Many I dont even see til someone messages me. Had many when some poster was posting obscene photos a year or so back. I wasnt even aware of it til they shared it. We browse the site LIKE you and if we happen to come acrossed a post that warrants it, it will be modified IF appropriate but never `just cause` we dont like it.

ibaheir2dathrone (965.5 days ago)
((Robin)) your a sweetie, thank you! :)

thebigtomato (965.5 days ago)
jpcm - That`s why I just don`t delete unless there`s specific name-calling or hating going on. It`s just far too subjective to define what is `offensive` otherwise.

ibaheir2dathrone (965.5 days ago)
JPCM-- first of all, if you read my polls, talk to me, read my page etc. I always make one (at least ) funny choice. It`s just the way I am, lightens the mood. I NEVER wrote anything bad about smokers or drinkers on my poll. I thought it was strange how many women said they would get rid of their friends instead of supporting them. I have been on her over a year(or right at it) and KNOW that I have read a few messages from a couple of those same women talking against smokers talking about one drink is ok. So I wanted to know. I never bashed them. I`m not a drama person. Your opionin is very low on mods. we`re not all running around deleting polls and causing drama. For you to say that I`m looking for drama, is wrong.

jpcm (965.5 days ago)
Sounds to me like, there should be a way to tell which mods are removing stuff that noone else seems to find offensive. I posted over and over on a poll about how women on here were calling and implying women who are pregnant and smoking, selfish and ignorant, and it just kept on and on. Otherwise, they are allowed to take down only the polls and comments that offend them, not he general public, and lots of people can just out of nowhere say they are offended, comments shouldn`t be removed just because of that, If we can`t discuss controversial topics, mods shouldn`t be able to do so either. Not sure f I understand what EXACTLY constitutes as offensive yet either. Considering so many take so little as offensive :(

thebigtomato (965.5 days ago)
Well, I would assume someone would use their best judgement to see if it COULD be interpreted as offensive. That way someone who likes to cause trouble can`t just say everything offends them and get it deleted. But I would think if someone said they were offended and had a good reason why, it probably would get deleted. This is just my best guess as I`ve never deleted a poll.

pooka (965.5 days ago)
so if I was to report being offended by a poll on here it would be deleted?

thebigtomato (965.5 days ago)
Also, mods are told specifically when they become a mod (or at least I was) NOT to speak directly to the person so as to avoid becoming a target for angry users. I know many of you would be understanding if a mod told you they needed to delete your comment or poll with a specific reason why, but there are also crazies who come on here and create fake profiles and crash the site, corrupt pages, and steal pictures... I personally don`t care WHAT is said in any conversation as long as there are no DIRECT attacks of anyone (in which case I would only delete the comment itself, not the poll), I leave it alone.

thebigtomato (965.5 days ago)
Polls are only deleted to my knowledge if someone states that they are offended by them, not just willy nilly regardless of how heated the conversation gets. The most I`ve ever done is delete a comment if someone was particularly offensive (i.e. direct name-calling), but I`ve never actually deleted a poll.

RobinG (965.7 days ago)
Since I volunter my time and have also been on the receiving end of harassment I dont feel comfortable always notifying that person. I leave that up to Laura to discuss it with you. I forward posts to her that warrant it so she can address it. Sadly if a person posted something and it was offensive and I let them know I delted it I cant imagine they would smile and say ok and nothing more ~ some moms sadly are not so nice and the drama in private risks going to a new level between mod and poster as to why it was deleted or edited. If there is a concern with mods then talk to Laura and Dirk ~

pooka (965.7 days ago)
I`d like to make a suggestion that mods send a private message to the person the poll belongs to when they delete it so the person knows why it was deleted. You can`t expect people to learn whats allowed and not allowed when stuff is just deleted with no comment as to why. I moderate a really huge health forum and when we delete someones post it says who deleted it and why and people are almost always understanding about it.

jpcm (965.7 days ago)
I just think some mods are abusing their titles, and deleting what they see fit, when it`s not near as controversial or degrading as a few of the original polls by mods themselves. When a poll like, `Should first time parents be required to take a class` is deleted, and YET, mods post such polls as `Does it offend you when you see a heavy lady on the beach` is ALLOWED to stay up, considering there ARE heavy women on here...alot of them, resulting form the fact they have kids!!!!! And such polls as `WOW, so really peopel would stop being friends with a smoker while she was pregnant, and choices for that poll are wait min while i puff and sit my glass down...ARE LOOKING fordrama, and yet, they stay posted, and are done so by mods. If we knew who all the mods were, then we as users of this site, could ALSO go to their pages, and look to see what controversy THEY start! HOW can those be considered ok, to post, BY MODS, and yet, a poll about first time parenting classes was deleted?!??!

pooka (965.7 days ago)
thanks Robin that was just suggested to me by someone else too and i did find it. So again a huge thank you to people who made those suggestions. I am DEF going to get some sleepy time tea and see if that helps.

RobinG (965.7 days ago)
Wasnt me... pooka ~ you can sometimes go into your comments section on your page and sometimes pull it up. It will not show on polls section but sometimes, not always, it remains on that comments page on your own profile page. When I come acrossed a poll I was involved in and want to see what was posted recently and it was deleted I go to my profile page or the poster of it and pull it up there.

happyforest (965.7 days ago)
haha i just noticed the poll about this poll got deleted already! jp your point is becoming clearer and clearer as time goes on!!! it almost makes me laugh, but i still think its ridiculous

ilovemy2littleprinces (965.7 days ago)
dont bring the drama here go to cafemom for that

ibaheir2dathrone (965.7 days ago)
I didn`t do it. I wanted to read it to my hubby. That is why I went look it up. I told him about it but wanted to read them all to him.

pooka (965.7 days ago)
no I never deleted it.. and I wish there would have been a warning as I would have loved to have written down the stuff people suggested or their names to ask them again. But nope.. can`t even use the suggestions offered. I really though it was weird to since everyone was being surprisingly respectful and helpful to me. I knew it was a slightly shocking thing to ask when I asked it but i really do need some help with my insomnia

http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/copyrights.php

~ I didnt delete the parenting one and was surprised myself so honestly cant tell you why it was deleted. As far as the weed post, any posts discussing use of weed over the few years I`ve been here and even before I was a mod have been deleted. Whether their intentions were good or not. ibaheir2dathrone ~ I think of you everytime I see a VBAC poll/post. hugs (()) I totally agree with you and I am always sharing my story about how horrible my VBAC was. I didnt delete yours so not sure what happened. I am able to be on this site alot but only because my computer is in the same room as where the kids play so I kind of mix my play time and reading time. I volunteer my time and do so because I want to be helpful and follow what Laura and Dirk envision with this site, not to censor things based on my own personal beliefs. There was a poll up not along ago about mods. I answered it much the same as this and it was deleted by someone else. I cant speak for other mods ~ only for myself.

ibaheir2dathrone (965.7 days ago)
Pooka, I thought you deleted your own poll. I got on to look at it this morning and saw that it was gone.

heathert (965.7 days ago)
wow, I do know from Robin that she may delete certain parts of a comment from a poll and leave parts of it so it is not as bad as originally wrtten weather she agrees with it or not. I think some are deleted due to the comments not the poll. Yesterday I was completely offended by a few comments on the bikini poll, not because of different opinions but because the way some comments are- saying it is sexualizing our babies- really not needed. On the drinking while breast feeding had nothing to do with formula fed babies and the comment was not needed about formula being bad- that was not the poll question. IMO if we stayed to the poll and gave opinions with out putting down other moms they may stay up.

pooka (965.7 days ago)
Robin, since your a mod why do you think a poll on parenting courses would be deleted? do you think it violates policies? Just curious your take the polices of `no controversial or offensive` topics seems pretty open ended if we can have polls about people who smoke while pregnant and drink while breast feeding.

jpcm (965.7 days ago)
I think when it`s blatantly obvious, some mods are taking things too far, and deleting polls that are in no way controversial or starting drama, andyet, leaving up polls that are calling other moms selfish and ignorant, then yes, a line is being crossed, and it needs to be brought up...Like alot of other womenon here, I dont` know who all the mods are, Ijust know one is starting drama, and even made a poll on her page, about why there are so many controversial polls...because, she is makingthem, and then knocking people or deleting ones that she doesn`t agree with. I`ve only noticed this last few days, and was quite easy to figure out, if you looked. Considering it is hard to see who all the `mods who can delete` We do have aright to say, some of this is not right, and I will speak to Laura about the main mod, my poll, was to see how many other users of this site, feel the same way, and if there are other mods who abuse their priveledges. Having a poll about calling women who smoked while pregnant ignorant and selfish, is in NO way accepting the policies of this site, and yet, those polls are up and one of them is posted BY a moderator. Because this site, also had a section about helping mothers who DID smoke, trying to quit, but it was removed, or i can`t find it, and everytiem i tried to go to it, it was nothing but bashing the moms there. YET, these polls still exist???

ibaheir2dathrone (965.7 days ago)
Lol, hmmm are you talking about mine?? Yes, I posted a poll but didn`t write anything offensive. Some of the comments were getting heated. However I have had things deleted that really surprised and one offended me. I left a comment on a poll about my son who had passed and it was taken off. Sometimes life `ain`t` pretty it hurts. I see No reason why death can`t be talked about. In my case it could have saved my son If I would have known what I know now. Yet there are those who DON`T want to hear what can and does happen. I do agree that sometimes polls get deleted that shouldn`t (imho) Other times I see some that I DON`T agree with but it`s against any rules. (not my beliefs or tastes) I don`t delete them. I`ve only deleted 1 poll. 2 much controversy. (I do delete my own also)

pooka (965.7 days ago)
I find it super interesting that when i came for help for my insomnia because i mentioned smoking weed out of desperation my poll was deleted. Despite the fact no one was being rude on it and people were offering me GREAT suggestions which I can no longer even utilize because the poll is gone. I thought this site was here to support and help yet if someone asks for help they get deleted because mods don`t necessary agree with what they are asking. The poll was not controversial it was asking for HELP and suggestions on how to get some sleep for the health of myself and baby. But we can sit and bash smoking moms until the cows come home on Mod asked polls or talk about some woman not even part of this site caught drinking.

happyforest (965.7 days ago)
yeah interesting! i think it depends on WHO posts the poll!! and of course also if the MOD agrees with it or not.

jpcm (965.7 days ago)
Just trying to see why polls about first time parenting classes WERE deleted yesterday, and yet, polls about smoking moms being ignorant and selfish are STILL up, never deleted, and one was posted BY a moderator!!! Sorry for any typos :)

RobinG (965.7 days ago)
As a mod I only delete when the poll set up is against site policy. I dont ever delete polls if they dont fit my own personal beliefs or are just controversial. And yes my posts too have been deleted so I am no different then you all. If a post is up and it too is agaisnt site policy I will delete it, if a statement is up that I personlly dont like or agree with I dont delete it I will however delete posts that are very offensive and hurtful to others if again they are against site policy or I am contacted by a mom here who was very hurt by it, I then forward those to Laura since it is for her to handle. I may even delete just a single word if is profanity (have deleted the F word and the C word before). As I`ve shared before I dont ever delete a post or poll based on my own personal likes or dislikes. That being said I dont even know who all the mods are, just a few and we all view things differently. I can only speak for myself, perhaps other mods dont delete anything perhaps some delete more then me. If you have a concern regarding the mods and how the site is moderated perhaps discuss it with laura, not here on the polls. If I was in a job place and I didnt care for how a mod was doing things I`d go to the boss, not post it on the board in the break room since that will not do anything but cause more drama. JMHO ~

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,..... (more inside)
