He began babbling mama at 6 months, but he didn`t say words with intent for what they meant until toward the end of his 9th month. It is normal for babies to only say `mama`, `dada`, and two or three other words at one year old. Some babies take even longer. For example, my best friend`s little girl wasn`t saying ANY words, not even `mama` or `dada` at her one year checkup, but she would point at any body part or anything in the room if you asked where it was (within a month after that was saying TONS of words)! On the other end of the spectrum is my son who was saying over 20 words reliably at one year, but he refuses to point to anything when you ask!
