I think that is one of our problems we have now, `We Don`t Mind Our Own Business`!! It`s totally different if the child was being beat down. You may not agree with what she did but that`s not your child. That`s her child. We all have some kind of parenting ways/styles that others would find odd/not right.

I think you have to be careful when judging people. although I don`t agree with smacking a child in the face AT all. I do know one time my oldest swore at a waiter and I was so shocked it was just a knee jerk reaction I gave him a smack on the cheek. I was equally as shocked I did it but I just reacted. I don`t even spank. So I am sure people thought I was awful too but sometimes you do just react. I had a friend who gave her kid a smack for biting her on the back of the leg. It again was just a quick gut reaction and she never spanked either.

I have no problem with spanking(i dont spank my daughter now) but i get furious when parents hit children across the face or any other inapropriot place on their body like on their back or legs.Bum only and not infront of other people.I will offcourse try time outs first(wherever we are) but hitting across the face is abuse!

happyforest (937.2 days ago)
i wouldnt say anything unless the child was obviously being HURT physically. i am against hitting, i believe it hurts children in all ways (physical and emotional) and teaches violence and distrust. but that is MY opinion, and she obviously has a different one and thats her right and parenting choice, so unless it was really putting the child in physical danger, i dont feel like i need to step in.

Unless it was excessive, I would mind my own business and allow that woman to make her own parenting choices.

This is a difficult one to call, as others have already mentioned that you don`t know how the child was behaving (or misbehaving) for the day. I can count on one hand the amount of times I`ve lost the plot and smacked my kids in the last year, and still have fingers left over, but it`s never been for something so small. The last time I smacked my daughter, who is nine, it was because she disappeared for 3 hours to go swimming without telling anyone where she was! You can imagine how scared I was and I freely admit I freaked out and smacked her pretty hard on the bottom and leg. It all depends on your own patience level, and whether or not you`re doing it all alone, to be honest. I found that I had a lot less patience for my kids when I had no partner. I would mind my own business, until and unless it was strong violence.

Also...If I saw a mom smack her 7-8 year old in the mouth for whistling Id think eek...that little girl mustve been irritating that mom all day. However, there was a mom in walmart the other day cradling a 4 or 5 month old who was fussing and she yelled at the baby to shut the **** up. Now THATS the kind of woman I call CPS on.

california-mom (937.5 days ago)
You have no idea how the kid had been behaving the beginning part of the day. The mom could have been on her last nerve with her for good reason, had she been acting up prior to you seeing the whistling issue. Unless I see a parent actually beat their child (not smacking on the hand, popping them in the mouth etc), like closed fist hitting or backhanding them in the face, I wont say anything. Ive actually never said anything to a stranger simply bc you just never know how the person is. Dont get me wrong, Ive called CPS on a few different parents, strangers as well as people I know. But to say something directly to an already angry mom you dont know...its too risky. I DO spank my children and I DO flick my 6 year old daughter in the mouth if she gets too mouthy after a warning. I do NOT considering it abuse. I consider abuse to be violent acts of uncontrollable rage against your child bc youre taking their bad behavior personally. *I love the way xoblondieox worded it.

Girl that ain`t abuse...try seeing a four year get the living shit beat out of them...and in public...I swear to god I wanted to vomit!!!! I was young when I witnessed this and If it would have been now (at age 30) that bitch would have gotten a beat down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!

Luis and Rosalanis Mami (937.6 days ago)
I personally would mind my own business, it`s her child and if she wasn`t beating her then there is nothing you can do, I personally don`t like to spank my children but if there is a good reason for it then yes, one tap on the bottom or on the leg I think is fine, I do not think spanking is abuse. I used to smack my daughters hand if she did something wrong or touched something she shouldnt be touching after i toild her numerous times not to, but I talked to a dss worker (she was a friend from church) about it and she said that eventually smacking on the hand will become illegal because it affects something in the childs brain. I never did that again! smacking on the mouth I do think is uncalled for though, I think that is abuse and I think that is degrading. And I would never spank my child out in public.

busymommyof3 (937.6 days ago)
I would have minded my business! Spanking is not abuse!!

brendalee (937.6 days ago)
FINALLY someone else agrees that spanking is abuse. If I would have seen that I would have done something, You can`t just slap a child on the face.

amber325 (937.6 days ago)
It is not for you to judge or criticize another mother...UNLESS you can tell the child is bruised/ malnourished. Otherwise mind your own business

crystalblueeyes (937.6 days ago)
well my grandmother always said spare the rod spoil the child but i certainly dont think that means to smack ur child in the face, i think it just means to discipline ur children appropriately.

butterblocksmom (937.6 days ago)
While I abhor that it happened and feel for the child, it is none of our business. Making a comment or a scene could potentially make it worse for the child.

SpecialMomma (937.6 days ago)
I wouldn`t think it`s any of your business. Some parents spank and it`s not considered abuse...you would have just upset her more.

OMG, I posted on FB (in reponse to a suggestion made to me on From Our House To Yours) that I didn`t like a business because the items were very expensive and my friend got a bad deal there and the owner is threatening to sue me! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I actually paid a consultation fee and my lawyer told me that she was `absurd with possible mental health problems.` I am protected by the fisrt ammendment to express my honest opinions freely where I choose, but he said she can take it to court(because people can TRY to sue over anything) anyway and that it might cost me legal bills. We will both be out a lot of money because she couldn`t possibly win. Can you believe that? FML! First my records and now this! I hope my baby isn`t a bad luck baby. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
